(More customer reviews)I really like the fire wire cappabilities. Although Umax says the PCI card that comes with it is for PC's only, if you get the firewire 2.5 drivers from Apple the card works flawlessly!!!! On top of that, It's really fast! :) The thing I don't like is the fact that it is a little difficult to get the transparency adapter to work perfectly... All in all a very awsome machine! I actually give it 4 1/2 stars.

The Umax Astra 6450 offers high-speed FireWire/IEEE 1394 technology, 42-bitinternal color density, 14 bits per channel, single-button operation, andscanning resolutions from 600 x 1,200 dpi to a maximum of9,600 x 9,600 dpiinterpolated. The Intelligent Image Process Engine (IIPE) evaluates the correctscanner settings for many types of images, providing untroubled high-speedscanning, with scaling ability from 1 to 1,000 percent in 5 percent increments. IIPE alsoauto-crops image areas and can correct the orientation if the source imageis off center. A built-in transparency cover allows it to scan slides,negatives, and transparencies up to 4 by 5 inches.
The 6450 has FireWire connectivity for Apple Macintosh G3, G4, and iMac DVusers (PC users will need to use the included 1394 card) and is designedto appeal to Web designers and graphics artists. With Umax Astra 6450'shot swappability, you can connect or disconnect the scanner without restarting thesystem.
This compact and lightweight (under 9 pounds) unit includes Adobe PhotoshopLE, OmniPage LE OCR, Presto! PageManager, and Adobe Photoshop LE softwarefor enhancing, modifying, and organizing images. Umax supports the Astra6450 with one year of technical support and extended support hours.
