(More customer reviews)I actually went into the stores looking for a fax machineexpecting to spend about $150. when i saw this at [the offered price], i realized i hit the jackpot. its so nice and small and the cover closes up to hide the buttons for a better look. my print quality was exceptional even though the dpi is only 720x360. in reading about Canon's Drop Modulation technology, i can see how they do it with minimal dpi. black quality is perfect and there are NO paper missfeeds at all. it seems as though it will copy just about anything and that makes me happy. i havent had any worries about this machine and Canon has answered all my questions about the different things i can do with it. Thank you so much Canon for making a great product. Now my fax machine does 4 other things as well! Awesome.

(More customer reviews)Great printer. Duplexing is great. Feeder is great, and really good quality. I got a great price for it and have been happily printing away for months. Drums are pricey, but the toner last a long Time (even more if you put black tape over the "eye" of the toner cartridge so the printer will keep printing until ink is really all gone (approximately 1,500 more pages--That was a REALLY deceptive trick Brother). Only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because the network card which you buy to upgrade it to wireless is sometimes tricky. It will stop working for reasons unknown. I'll turn the printer off and most of the time within a few hours the network card will reset itself and we can wireless print again by changing the IP address. No idea why it does that.
Otherwise, highly recommend.

(More customer reviews)The print quality of this machine is quite good but that is where the benefits end. These are the problems that I have had in the two months that I have owned it:
1. Regular paper jams. There is no apparent paper jam but the machine stops and paper jam is the error message. I called tech support and they told me to fan the paper more. Fanning the paper is not the issue it jams no matter how or how many times you fan the paper.
2. Missed faxes. Sometimes the fax does not pick up. This hasn't happened to me in many years, since the fax was perfected 15-20 years ago. But this machine will sometimes not pick up the fax or pick up only part of the fax. C'mon, this is a fax machine! You can buy them for under $100 and they work better, a lot better, than this!
3. Does not send the fax. I have had repeated problems with this machine not sending any or only part of a fax. This has happened many times and is frightening since I am sending contracts and similar important biz documents. Once again: this is a fax machine! The technology was perfected a long time ago but apparently not by Ricoh.
4. Fax: Not very easy to adjust ring times or volume. My assistants each read the manual and were not able to do it. We had to bring in the tech guy and even then he was only able to turn the volume off completely, not what I wanted and the minimum number of rings is three.
5. Warm up time: I takes 1 minute and 25 seconds to print a monochrome copy first thing in the morning. It takes nearly a minute to print once the machine goes into the saver mode. Nothing like seeing the staff wait and wait for prints to kick out! That will get your BP up.
6. Scanning: I don't know yet I haven't been able to figure out how to scan to the computer yet but I have only spent a normal amount of time trying so far and have been using a canon Dr-2050C scanner since it is simple and easy to use.
I paid $850 and this machine has slowed down business, beware. I will be happy to remove this review if Ricoh buys the machine back from me.
Overall a bad choice. What a waste of time. I am going to hook up the old Brother fax and buy a new printer/copier and try to sell this machine.
Update: December 2009. I'd like to report that after three visits from a repair crew that this machine is better than one star but it's not. If I hadn't paid so much for it plus a very expensive extended warranty I would have given it away but I can't in good conscience sell this lemon.

Brother HL-2070N Network Monochrome Laser Printer (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)This printer doesn't have the 'built-like-a-tank" feel or weight of my old Laserwriter IIg, but it's far quicker and less troublesome. If you want to do black-and-white printing on a budget, I highly recommend it. I use it to print book drafts and even the 8-point type in footnotes is sharp and clear. The driver installed quickly and worked without a hitch on my Mac mini and MacBook.
Installed to run over an Ethernet network, this printer has a rudimentary web page server that allows you to use your web browser to configure some of its features remotely, including the print resolution and a toner save mode. You can also see how many pages you've used on the toner and drum, so you have an idea when each needs replacing. The web page configuration information is buried in the Network User's Guide, so I'll post it here. (Voting this review helpful will keep in near the top and help others to see this posting.)

Brother MFC-885CW Photo Color All-in-One with Wireless Networking and 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone Review

(More customer reviews)First off, I just got this today, so I cannot comment on the long term reliability of this machine. From the initial setup and run through of its features, this is what I've come up with.
Print quality is awesome. I first copied the registration card as a test. It was amazing how it came out. I couldn't really tell which was the original and which was the copy. Even the handwritten portion was reproduced flawlessly. I then decided to make use of the 5 pack of high gloss 4x5 paper which is included so I figured I'd try it out on a very small prom picture of mine. It came out perfect. I copied it right onto the 4x5...expanding it to 176% and brightening it a little using only the settings on the 885CW itself to do so. The picture came out looking flawless. I also printed a quick word document that had similarly impressive qualities...the text was very dark as opposed to my old Lexmark AIO.
Then I scanned in the same picture and edited it with Photoshop. The picture looked very good at 900 pixels. No complaints there.
I also tried out the fax by sending in my registration form. It was a breeze and the fax preview proved very handy. You can have it scan the paper (either by feeding it like a normal fax (ADF) or the scanning glass), then preview it, mess around with a few settings and when it's all nice and pretty, off it goes...or skip the extra steps and just send it like a normal fax as most would probably do.
The cordless phone is an appreciated feature, and the speaker phone is loud and clear. Anyone who complained about the MFC-845CW's 20 second limit on incoming voice messages will be happy to know their feedback was heard by Brother. You can now select the time limit for messages, between 30 and 120 seconds.
I tried out the OCR feature which allows you to scan a document onto your computer and edit the text in a word processor. I was impressed with its ability to recognize typed documents, although anything handwritten is understandably out of the question.
Printing from a memory card is also simple. I did a real quick print and everything was good with it as well. There are some basic editing features on the machine, although I haven't really tried any of them and most likely won't in the future...as far as I'm concerned that's what Photoshop is for.
Overall layout of the Navigation screen was nice. The widescreen was very helpful and made selecting different options simple as you can fit more in at once. Easy navigation and very basic information...Setup was a breeze with my Linksys network...taking only the push of a couple buttons and it was good to go. I've got 2 computers currently sharing this printer...one is a laptop (wireless) and the other a desktop (USB). With the laptop comes my one and only complaint...read on...I'm running Windows XP Media Center Edition, Service Pack 2 on my laptop. The main program (Control Center 3) will not run on it. Whenever I try to load it, I get a terminal failure (The kind that asks to send Microsoft an error report). I did as much snooping around for a fix as I could...but didn't find anything. So I downloaded the latest set of utilities for the machine...but no help there. So this means that on my laptop right now I can still print, however I cannot receive information such as scans and such from the machine. I'm more then confident that when I get on the phone with Brother they will have a solution, or that an updated version of the program will be released fixing this. But I'll have to wait until Monday to do so.
To be fair I did purchase this fairly soon after its release so bugs are understandable. And they do not specifically mention Media Center Edition as a compatible operating system although it is implied when they say XP Home. My desktop is my powerhouse anyway so I do most of the editing on their...but still it's a frustrating problem none the less.I've been through my fair share of printers...from Lexmark to HP. This is the best I've come across. I'm a very demanding consumer, and spent hours researching before making this purchase. It was the most expensive on my list of "maybes"...but I figured I'd take a chance and I don't regret it in the least. I'll probably be using this printer for at least the better part of a decade so I decided to make it a good one. As far as the software is concerned, yes it is an inconvenience, but most likely a temporary one...I'm certain many people would have docked a point or two for that, but for me the excess of quality makes up for such a blaring issue with the software...and most likely the people reading this review will not have an issue with it because I'm sure my case is fairly isolated and isn't directly related to my Operating System, rather something else that's going on. In the future I'll install it on an identical laptop with the same operating system (we have 3 in my house) and see if the problem reoccurs.
Good luck with finding the right AIO for yourself. It would take a rare breed to find disappointment with the MFC-885CW, but everyone has different standards for their different uses. For me, this is perfect.

Brother MFC-9420CN Network-Ready Color Laser Flatbed MFC Review

(More customer reviews)I compared this to all the alternatives in the market (i.e. HP, Epson, Canon) and as of Jan. 2006 it has by far the best specs and nicest features. I have the printer setup using the Ethernet connection, drivers installed very easily and though still on version 1.0 seem to work very nicely. Printer came very nicely packaged and with very easy instructions on how to put it together.
Problems or things I have noticed so far are as follows:
1.) Printer makes lots of noise moving the different toner color cartridges in and out, kind of a clumping noise.
2.) Envelope printing is terrible, as mentioned by others. The printer can not print close to the edges so when printing a return address the text does not look good. I have never seen this problem on any other printer, even though the Brother manual states it can not print close to edges. It should be able to print as close to the edges as required by Microsoft envelope mode, IMO. Envelopes I use that are just a bit thicker then normal get stuck in the printer and will not work. There is a setting for thicker paper in the driver which may help but a nuisance to change just to print an envelope, and you can not get to the driver when printing with Microsoft Word envelope feature. Would need to make the change permanent in printer preferences and then go back into Word. Lots of trouble to print an envelope.
3.) No manual feed paper slot is another inconvienience. You have to load any special paper or envelopes into the tray each time. With all this work required to print an envelope your probably better off blowing off the dust on your IBM Selectric.
4.) Brother support via email just sends you canned responses and the two questions I had, I don't think anyone actually read the questions.
Overall though the printer is suitable. The copy feature is very nice and easy to use. Just load the paper in the auto feeder and press the COLOR or BW button. Finally I agree with the other poster here also, putting the big marketing sticker on the front of the machine was not a class act. I have not tried to remove it yet but it looks like it would be a pain. Still probably the nicest low cost, All In One, Color on the market. At least until a single pass color unit comes out. Hope my review was some benefit.

Since then I have purchased a digital camera, and have found this machine produces great framable pictures!!! I would highly recomend this machine for anyone who shops around and wants the most features and quality for the price. I have used up a few ink cartridges printing larger 8x10 photos, but the individual ink cartridges make it easy and cost effective to use. The only thing I am missing is a flatbed, but so far I haven't needed it and have been able to scan pictures through the document feeder. Also a great color copier.

(More customer reviews)Used this printer for almost two years with zero problems. Plugged it in and never turned it off. Printer wakes up quickly and print speed is pretty good. If you have weak power wiring in your house, you may notice dimming of the lights when printer heater turns on from sleep. So if printer is connected to the same power outlet as your computer, you better use UPS for your computer to prevent accidental rebooting. If memory doesn't fail me, printer heater draws 1-2kW at peak. I don't use cable to connect with computers, all computers (running Vista) easily connected via WiFi. The toner life can be significantly extended if you cover the little opening on left side of the toner cartridge. I got 1100 pages from the starter cartridge that way. Printouts are consistently good quality, they get lighter at the end of toner life as expected.

(More customer reviews)I have no complaints with this product. It amazes me a device with so many features for such a low cost can produce the quality of images of the Brother MFC-440cn. It replaced (and improved the quality and speed) of three devices, and freed lots of room at the workstation. There may be more expensive devices that can produce higher quality images, but I can't imagine the quality can improve much over what this can do. For 8x10 color images it is great. The scanning quality and speed is excellent for my needs. Throw in the fax and copy capability with a color LCD menu screen AND the ability to print directly from memory cards and you've got one fantastic and useful piece of equipment. I'll have to get used to the included software, but it has some nice features as well as some minor quirks. Once you scan an image, it is not intuitive what you are supposed to do next. A small problem overall. Changing cartridges is the most convenient and simple process I've experienced on an inkjet printer. I would buy this device again.

(More customer reviews)Prior to this I had an HP 3330, and it was good to me for over 7 years, but I decided to upgrade to a duplexing unit. I bought a Canon laser printer, and sent it back two days later to Office Depot--whoever designed that unit should be shot. Anyway...
My wife was in Costco a couple of days later, and told me they had the Brother MFC 8660DN there, and since it's easy to return stuff to Costco, I told her to bring it on home.
This unit is a dream. The footprint is small. The door for inserting envelopes and single sheets of paper (so you can easily use recycled paper) is right there in front where you need it and is simple (unlike the Canon); I use a lot of recycled paper.
The copier works FAST, and the settings are easy to use and very intuitive. The fax unit works better and faster and easier than the HP ever did--finally, it coordinates with my answering machine without any hassles.
The scanner and my computer (Windows XP) work together seamlessly.
The printer (although not the copier or fax) has great duplexing capabilities. (A more expensive unit, I believe, has duplexing for the copier and fax too if you need it).
Let's talk about Brother support--I stupidly sent an envelope with a metal clasp through the unit, and realized that that's why a couple of little dots were appearing on my pages. I called Brother, and they sent me a new drum AND a new toner cartridge (okay, I had to call two times)at n/c.
btw, you'll read some reviews online that say it's noisy. It's not noisy. There is more noise coming from the plane that's flying overhead right now, or the dogs barking next door, than from this printer, and it's right behind my desk chair, where I can easily access it. I use it all the time.
So, I'm really happy with this Brother product, and recommend it.

(More customer reviews)This printer is a new offering from Brother and I have only had it a couple of days, but my initial opinion is that it's a pretty good printer. Set-up was easy, I have it positioned about 40' from my (very old) router on a different level of my house and connectivity so far has been flawless. I have both printed and scanned without any issues. I currently have a desktop and two laptops setup to print to this printer, again, no issues. Print quality looks as you'd expect for a laser printer and scan quality seemed good as well. On duplex printing the page does come out slightly curled, but I think that's to be expected in a printer of this size. This is my first laser printer so I have nothing to compare it to, but the noise level does not seem bad at all, I can hear it from the next room but just barely and it's totally quiet while "sleeping". Print speed is very quick, I thinks it's rated for less than 10 seconds for the first print and that seems about right, it's very quick. As I stated earlier, I have not had this printer long, but so far so good. I got this for significantly under MSRP, don't buy it for list price. I'll try to provide an update after it's been in use for a while.

(More customer reviews)I've had this for past year. Use it for home use. Use it as fax, scanner, printer and copier. Satisfied with all those functions.
- Simple to use.
- The auto sheet feeder is very useful.
- Software is good also.
- Also, the scanner works well. I scan in documents mostly and it works well. No problems with scanning magazines or newspapers. As for scanning color photos, the detail is there, but the color saturation wasn't perfect. What I mean is that when scanning a color photo with some dark areas in a photo with high contrast areas, I was unable to make it so that the dark areas came out clearly. Perhaps I have't tried it thoroughly. I wasn't too concerned about it, so haven't spent much time tweaking it.
- Print quality is good. Of course, the print quality from more expensive HP printers I use at office has better print qualities. But for everyday home use, this is more than sufficient.Bottom line: I would buy this printer again. Good quality and value.

A flatbed laser multi-function from Samsung, the SCX-4216 consolidates important office functions into one unit, saving on both space and money. Designed with home office and small business users in mind, the SCX-4216 can scan, copy, fax, and print, and has a number of useful, time-saving extras.
A maximum optical resolution of 600 x 600 dpi (scan, print, and copy) can be enhanced up to 4,800 x 4,800 dpi when scanning, while 256 levels of halftone and 24-bit color depth produce high-quality, accurate scans suitable for a wide range of applications (scanning function not available for Macintosh systems). Print speeds are as fast as 17 ppm for letter-sized documents, with copy speeds of up to 17 cpm and scan speeds of around 25 seconds (depends on the document).

I have experienced zero problems with this machine and find it as easy to use as it was to setup. Perhaps there were issues when the 2009 review was posted, but this certainly has not been my experience.

Brother MFC-8440 Laser Multifunction Review

(More customer reviews)I run a home office and am a heavy user of printing, scanning, faxing and copying. This unit replaced an old copier and an older printer/fax.
Installation gave me error messages. My system does have a lot of software and drivers on a WinXP Pro SP2 operating system. I was able to manually get the drivers installed. No, I didn't have the patience to call Brother.
Function in all modalities is superb. Text print quality and speed are excellent. Graphics are good.
Copying and fax work like a charm, both sheetfed and flatbed.
I compared the color scanning against my Epson 2450 Photo scanner. For routine scanning, I prefer the Brother. If I need to tweak a scan, I'll use the Epson. That's a pretty good recommendation!
I can highly recommend this product (with the one installation caution). Others have not reported install problems and I suspect this was my fairly complex system.
If you need a laser based AIO, by all means give this a try!

(More customer reviews)I highly recommend the MFC-8820DN instead of this model. It's about the same price and it includes automatic duplexing (that's the 'D' in the model #) and it includes a network interface (that's the 'N' in the model #). Definitely don't go for a 7xxx model. The 8xxx models use high capacity cartridges which means about seventy bucks for > 6000 pages instead of fifty bucks for about 2000 pages for the 7xxx models. Think about it. After just a couple toner cartridges you'll have paid for the better machine!
I didn't buy mine on Amazon as they don't sell the MFC-8820DN. I don't know why - it's much better IMHO.
