HEWCE841A - LaserJet Pro M1212NF Multifunction Laser Printer with Copy/Fax/Print/Scan Review

HEWCE841A - LaserJet Pro M1212NF Multifunction Laser Printer with Copy/Fax/Print/Scan
Average Reviews:

Purchased this printer and put it together this afternoon. (After I stopped at Office Depot and purchased a USB cable, (which was not in my box containing my all in one printer). After removing all of the orange plastic, and placing the cords in the correct orifices, this printer/fax/scanner seems pretty spectacular! Your computer will input and change the dates/times so you don't have to try to struggle with the printer for these changes.
This is a newly purchased machine which appears superior to its replacement.
I purchased this machine at a reasonable price [...] however the shipping was pretty extreme [...]...
...But for the machine...I would have to rate it excellent!

Epson WorkForce 600 Wireless All-in-One Refurb Review

Epson WorkForce 600 Wireless All-in-One Refurb
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I review a product, I like to mention the problems first, then detail the things I like. For this review, there are quite simply no things I like about this printer.
Connectivity: Poor. I've been able to connect a wide variety of devices to my wireless G network, including a Brother printer, but this printer will not connect no matter what I do. This isn't terribly important, however, given the other problems I've had.
Print: Print quality is acceptable. Given the quantity of ink this printer guzzles, I'd hope it would be. After replacing what I assumed were starter cartridges, I got 40 ordinary text pages out of the replacement carts. There's no longer a need to connect this monster to my wireless network, since it's cheaper to print text on my Canon photo printer.
Fax: It will not receive faxes. All is configured correctly, the printer reports an incoming ring, it's set to answer, but when I try to force it to answer it returns the error "Load paper for fax printing." Paper is loaded, and I made a copy to test that there are no feed problems.
Copy: B&W copying is acceptable, but again, not cheap. I'm not going to try a color copy until I have no choice.
Scan: Acceptable. I'm using an 8GB SDHC card and scanning directly to the card, since of course there's no network connection. It works, but an ordinary scanner would produce better quality scans and take up a whole lot less space.
I've had my eye on a large format Epson printer, but this is the last Epson product I will ever own. I do recognize that the photo printers are a very different beast than the Workforce printers, but if this is the kind of quality that Epson will put its name on, I've lost all respect for the company.

I actually went into the stores looking for a fax machineexpecting to spend about $150. when i saw this at [the offered price], i realized i hit the jackpot. its so nice and small and the cover closes up to hide the buttons for a better look. my print quality was exceptional even though the dpi is only 720x360. in reading about Canon's Drop Modulation technology, i can see how they do it with minimal dpi. black quality is perfect and there are NO paper missfeeds at all. it seems as though it will copy just about anything and that makes me happy. i havent had any worries about this machine and Canon has answered all my questions about the different things i can do with it. Thank you so much Canon for making a great product. Now my fax machine does 4 other things as well! Awesome.

Hewlett Packard PSC 950XI Multifunction Print/Copy/Scan Review

Hewlett Packard PSC 950XI Multifunction Print/Copy/Scan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
HP has done it again. The 950 is just what I needed to replace the scanner and photoprinter in my cramped computer room. Plus I get a fax machine and a memory card reader in the deal. Setup was easy enough. I have not had time to figure out all the features of this printer. One feature I really like is the ability to print a proof sheet fro ma memory card and then you can color in the dots under the pictures you want printed. Place the proof sheet on the scanner, scan it and it prints only the selected photos.
The only thing I wish it had was a sheet feeder to make sending multipage faxes easier. I don't send many faxes so it's not a big deal.

Samsung SCX-4016 Flatbed Laser Multifunction Review

Samsung SCX-4016 Flatbed Laser Multifunction
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just received SCX-4016 from Amazon.com for two days. Because I have an HP ScanJet scanner and heard that SCX-4016 scan function is not that great, I only use copy and print functions. Laser printing quality is good and is truely 600DPI. Copying is also ok. Toner came from the box is just the same after market SCX-4216D3/XAA (you should check the toner itself), not a lower graded. Not too big, not too slow (about 10 to 12 page/min).
However, the downsides are,
1. First page of copying comes out slowly. Probably below average waiting as other SOHO copiers. But the multifunction is for my home use and it's not a high volume so this is fine. First page of printing seemed faster.
2. The unit is a little noisy. You will hear a hissing especially at night. But this is still ok to me because I bought a wireless print server and put it to family room.
Though it has two shortcomings till now, consider the price ($274 - $70 rebate = $204), you can hardly find another multifunction with laser printer and flatbed copier...

The Samsung SCX-4016 is a reliable, flatbed monochrome laser MFP (copier/printer/scanner). A true magician of multi tasking, it's ideal for SOHO. As a monochrome laser printer, it offers 4 MB of standard memory, a fast print speed of 17 pages-per-minute, and 600 dpi resolution for superior image quality every time you print. The SCX-4016 accommodates standard paper sizes up through legal. Its flatbed scanner gives you greater versatility in what you can copy and scan. And its adjustable bypass feeder allows for easy printing of varying special media. The SCX-4016 offers a great paper handling 250-sheet input capacity, 150-sheet output, and can scan in color at 4800 dpi in an enhanced mode. There's also the added savings benefit of Samsung's exclusive TonerSave button. When activated, TonerSave mode allows users to increase toner capacity up to 40%. For greater convenience, printer interfaces include both IEEE-1284 parallel and USB 1.1. And as you'd expect from this versatile machine, it's compatible with a wide range of Microsoft Windows operating systems, including Windows 95/98/2000/Me/NT4.0/XP. The Samsung SCX-4016 is reliable, versatile, and affordable. It's clearly the smartest choice.

Brother® MFC-8640D Laser Flatbed All-in-One Duplex Review

Brother® MFC-8640D Laser Flatbed All-in-One Duplex
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Great printer. Duplexing is great. Feeder is great, and really good quality. I got a great price for it and have been happily printing away for months. Drums are pricey, but the toner last a long Time (even more if you put black tape over the "eye" of the toner cartridge so the printer will keep printing until ink is really all gone (approximately 1,500 more pages--That was a REALLY deceptive trick Brother). Only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because the network card which you buy to upgrade it to wireless is sometimes tricky. It will stop working for reasons unknown. I'll turn the printer off and most of the time within a few hours the network card will reset itself and we can wireless print again by changing the IP address. No idea why it does that.
Otherwise, highly recommend.

Ricoh Aficio SP C232SF Color All-In-One Laser Printer (406443) Review

Ricoh Aficio SP C232SF Color All-In-One Laser Printer (406443)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The print quality of this machine is quite good but that is where the benefits end. These are the problems that I have had in the two months that I have owned it:
1. Regular paper jams. There is no apparent paper jam but the machine stops and paper jam is the error message. I called tech support and they told me to fan the paper more. Fanning the paper is not the issue it jams no matter how or how many times you fan the paper.
2. Missed faxes. Sometimes the fax does not pick up. This hasn't happened to me in many years, since the fax was perfected 15-20 years ago. But this machine will sometimes not pick up the fax or pick up only part of the fax. C'mon, this is a fax machine! You can buy them for under $100 and they work better, a lot better, than this!
3. Does not send the fax. I have had repeated problems with this machine not sending any or only part of a fax. This has happened many times and is frightening since I am sending contracts and similar important biz documents. Once again: this is a fax machine! The technology was perfected a long time ago but apparently not by Ricoh.
4. Fax: Not very easy to adjust ring times or volume. My assistants each read the manual and were not able to do it. We had to bring in the tech guy and even then he was only able to turn the volume off completely, not what I wanted and the minimum number of rings is three.
5. Warm up time: I takes 1 minute and 25 seconds to print a monochrome copy first thing in the morning. It takes nearly a minute to print once the machine goes into the saver mode. Nothing like seeing the staff wait and wait for prints to kick out! That will get your BP up.
6. Scanning: I don't know yet I haven't been able to figure out how to scan to the computer yet but I have only spent a normal amount of time trying so far and have been using a canon Dr-2050C scanner since it is simple and easy to use.
I paid $850 and this machine has slowed down business, beware. I will be happy to remove this review if Ricoh buys the machine back from me.
Overall a bad choice. What a waste of time. I am going to hook up the old Brother fax and buy a new printer/copier and try to sell this machine.
Update: December 2009. I'd like to report that after three visits from a repair crew that this machine is better than one star but it's not. If I hadn't paid so much for it plus a very expensive extended warranty I would have given it away but I can't in good conscience sell this lemon.

Epson Stylus CX7000F All-in-One Printer (C11C676001) Review

Epson Stylus CX7000F All-in-One Printer (C11C676001)
Average Reviews:

So frustrating.
I am on my 2nd replacement printer (my 3rd CX7000F in all) and it, too, DOES NOT work. This model will tell you a brand new ink cartridge needs to be replaced. I wasted a couple extra hundred dollars on more ink, because I thought the cartridge that came from the store was used. Then I learned that this is an Epson problem.
I will be calling tech support again on Monday. This saga has been ongoing since May. (It's July). I appreciate Epson sending me replacement printers, but since they don't work, it's of no use. I don't know who is doing the manufacturing, but they have screwed up a component. Too bad for Epson, because I will never buy another one of their printers again.
DO NOT BUY!!!!

Canon MultiPass F30 Flatbed Multifunction Review

Canon MultiPass F30 Flatbed Multifunction
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Canon F30 is better than I expected, even after having read the favorable Consumer Reports review. What I like: printouts are crisp and clean for text, graphics and photos; photos that I've printed on photo glossy paper were indistinguishable to me from the 4"x6" photos I scanned in (600 dpi, using F30's scanning software and Microsoft PhotoDraw 2000 v1.0); 1152x864 dpi digital photos I've taken and printed as large as I can on 8.5"x11" photo glossy paper look like professional portraits to me; it prints fast, even in high quality photo mode; functions as a stand alone copier (b&w, color and photos, too); and the ink is relatively cheap. I would buy another one if I needed a second stand-alone printer/scanner (as it apparently doesn't work as a network printer). It has USB and parallel communication ports (so maybe one could connect two PCs to one F30 when using different ports?). Regarding the ink, each color is in its own reservoir and is easy to replace. The print head is replaceable should the nozzles ever become clogged. (I totaled a $50 Epson printer by using a cheap ink refill kit, as Epson ink was costing me about $15 for every 100 to 150 pages of black text.) While ... seems expensive, I estimate the F30's lifetime cost to me will be about the same to hundreds of dollars less than an HP, Epson or Lexmark printer (without scanners) when the cost of the manufacturer's ink is factored in. I like the Omnipage Pro v9 OCR software that comes with the F30. Overall the F30 is a great printer, a great scanner and a great copier for this home user.

Designed with small spaces in mind, Canon's F50 Multipass combines several necessary functions inside one sleek box that fits snugly into an 18-by-24-inch space. Featuring a copier, scanner, and printer, this speedy and accurate machine is a convenient device for home offices and imaging hobbyists.
The printer and copier are compatible with envelopes, transparencies, photo paper, stickers, and transfers, as well as plain paper in letter size and legal size. The individual ink tank system is designed so that you only have to replace colors as they are used--a more economical plan than replacing entire cartridges.
For monochrome documents, the F50 churns out 17 pages per minute at 600 x 600 dpi; in color, it can process up to 12 pages per minute at an outstanding 2,400 x 1,200 dpi. The paper tray can handle 100 sheets of plain paper.
Up to 99 copies can be created from one original, with available magnification ranging from 25 percent to 400 percent. The flatbed scanner offers 9,600 x 9,600 dpi and 36-bit color; hobbyists can easily process their vacation photos, while professionals can quickly organize important documents.
The F50 is compatible with Windows 95/98, NT, ME, 2000, and XP, and includes a scan processing software package; it interfaces with your PC through either a USB or IEEE 1284 parallel connection. Canon provides a one-year limited warranty on parts and service with an option for InstantExchange service.

Hewlett Packard PSC500xi Multifunction Device Review

Hewlett Packard PSC500xi Multifunction Device
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The printing resolution is excellent. I can hardly tell the difference in quality from the laser printer in both B/W and color. All the functions work just great if you consider the price tag. This is almost identical to its sibling PSC500. Only downside is that if you use MS Publishing 2000, can't use the built-in slot to print out the envelopes because of the limited printing option to choose. It's MS's fault. You can still work around it by importing it to MS Words. For this reason I give 4 stars, but would give 5 stars for the unit itself. And, I wish I can copy something in color to B/W. Wouldn't mind paying few bucks extra for it.

The Hewlett-Packard PSC 500 produces impressive family and school projects with or without your PC. Its primary functions of color printing, scanning, and copying are designed to work together. You get vivid color and photo quality using HP PhotoREt II color-layering technology for lifelike skin tones at 6.5 pages per minute (ppm). Laser-like black text also brings a professional look to resumes, papers, and presentations at 9 ppm.
The PSC 500 supports a variety of media, including index cards, legal- and letter-size paper, envelopes, labels, and transparencies. Plus, your projects can be printed in crisp color on greeting cards, photographs, and T-shirt transfers.
The PSC 500 provides sharp scanning with the press of a button. It makes scanning and editing photos for all kinds of projects easy, even for the novice user. You can also send scanned objects through your e-mail. The flatbed scanner lets you scan books, magazines, and 3-D objects. You'll also appreciate OCR software for scanning text into your favorite word-processing program. The scanning resolution is 600 x 600 dpi optical and up to 2,400-dpi enhanced, with 30-bit color depth for accurate colors and with 8-bit grayscale (256 levels of gray) for enhanced contrast.
You can use the color-copy features without starting your PC. Pressing one button creates copied projects, like wallet-size photos to pass around to the extended family. You can also make posters, mirror images, and super-zoom enlargements. Save time and money, and make your own photo reprints and enlargements using high-quality photo paper. And of course, the HP PSC 500 prints up to 50 copies at a time and provides quick copies at up to 5 ppm in black and 3 ppm in color.
With its plethora of family-friendly features and HP Creative Photo Projects software, the HP PSC 500 is ideal for busy families and home offices. And don't forget the advantages of an all-in-one unit for saving space, reducing clutter, and eliminating the need for disparate accessories and supplies. The PSC 500 is also backed by the HP Customer Care warranty service.

Brother MFC-885CW Photo Color All-in-One with Wireless Networking and 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone Review

Brother MFC-885CW Photo Color All-in-One with Wireless Networking and 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, I just got this today, so I cannot comment on the long term reliability of this machine. From the initial setup and run through of its features, this is what I've come up with.
Print quality is awesome. I first copied the registration card as a test. It was amazing how it came out. I couldn't really tell which was the original and which was the copy. Even the handwritten portion was reproduced flawlessly. I then decided to make use of the 5 pack of high gloss 4x5 paper which is included so I figured I'd try it out on a very small prom picture of mine. It came out perfect. I copied it right onto the 4x5...expanding it to 176% and brightening it a little using only the settings on the 885CW itself to do so. The picture came out looking flawless. I also printed a quick word document that had similarly impressive qualities...the text was very dark as opposed to my old Lexmark AIO.
Then I scanned in the same picture and edited it with Photoshop. The picture looked very good at 900 pixels. No complaints there.
I also tried out the fax by sending in my registration form. It was a breeze and the fax preview proved very handy. You can have it scan the paper (either by feeding it like a normal fax (ADF) or the scanning glass), then preview it, mess around with a few settings and when it's all nice and pretty, off it goes...or skip the extra steps and just send it like a normal fax as most would probably do.
The cordless phone is an appreciated feature, and the speaker phone is loud and clear. Anyone who complained about the MFC-845CW's 20 second limit on incoming voice messages will be happy to know their feedback was heard by Brother. You can now select the time limit for messages, between 30 and 120 seconds.
I tried out the OCR feature which allows you to scan a document onto your computer and edit the text in a word processor. I was impressed with its ability to recognize typed documents, although anything handwritten is understandably out of the question.
Printing from a memory card is also simple. I did a real quick print and everything was good with it as well. There are some basic editing features on the machine, although I haven't really tried any of them and most likely won't in the future...as far as I'm concerned that's what Photoshop is for.
Overall layout of the Navigation screen was nice. The widescreen was very helpful and made selecting different options simple as you can fit more in at once. Easy navigation and very basic information...Setup was a breeze with my Linksys network...taking only the push of a couple buttons and it was good to go. I've got 2 computers currently sharing this printer...one is a laptop (wireless) and the other a desktop (USB). With the laptop comes my one and only complaint...read on...I'm running Windows XP Media Center Edition, Service Pack 2 on my laptop. The main program (Control Center 3) will not run on it. Whenever I try to load it, I get a terminal failure (The kind that asks to send Microsoft an error report). I did as much snooping around for a fix as I could...but didn't find anything. So I downloaded the latest set of utilities for the machine...but no help there. So this means that on my laptop right now I can still print, however I cannot receive information such as scans and such from the machine. I'm more then confident that when I get on the phone with Brother they will have a solution, or that an updated version of the program will be released fixing this. But I'll have to wait until Monday to do so.
To be fair I did purchase this fairly soon after its release so bugs are understandable. And they do not specifically mention Media Center Edition as a compatible operating system although it is implied when they say XP Home. My desktop is my powerhouse anyway so I do most of the editing on their...but still it's a frustrating problem none the less.I've been through my fair share of printers...from Lexmark to HP. This is the best I've come across. I'm a very demanding consumer, and spent hours researching before making this purchase. It was the most expensive on my list of "maybes"...but I figured I'd take a chance and I don't regret it in the least. I'll probably be using this printer for at least the better part of a decade so I decided to make it a good one. As far as the software is concerned, yes it is an inconvenience, but most likely a temporary one...I'm certain many people would have docked a point or two for that, but for me the excess of quality makes up for such a blaring issue with the software...and most likely the people reading this review will not have an issue with it because I'm sure my case is fairly isolated and isn't directly related to my Operating System, rather something else that's going on. In the future I'll install it on an identical laptop with the same operating system (we have 3 in my house) and see if the problem reoccurs.
Good luck with finding the right AIO for yourself. It would take a rare breed to find disappointment with the MFC-885CW, but everyone has different standards for their different uses. For me, this is perfect.

Picked up this printer at the local Staples for $[...] new sealed box. The ink and print heads themselves are worth $100+. Integrated this printer into my home network. Had an issue with finding the printer on the network and accessing the directjet web page by default. Hard coded the printer IP on printer and on router and BAM all works like a charm. Hey,for $[...]bucks, once the ink runs out I can sell it or just dump it. It's not like I don't already have another printer.

HEWCB071A - Officejet J3680 All-in-One Printer Review

HEWCB071A - Officejet J3680 All-in-One Printer

I bought the HP J3680 for my small business. I needed dependable printing of invoices and mailing labels, plus the ability to copy and scan. I also wanted a printer I could take on the road if I had to. The HP J3680 fit those requirements like no other printer I could find. On top of all that, I found a great price on Amazon.com
Caveats: I've used this only for printing black and white text.
Pros: Compact. Easy setup (Mac). Built in phone. Ink available everywhere. Takes up very little space on desk. The copier has many features to customize your job. The menu prompts are easy to follow. The phone (yes, even a phone!) has good sound.
Cons: Printing not the fastest, but the quality is exceptional. Cartridges are a bit finicky when being changed, but you'll get the hang of it once you've done it.
Bottom Line: I'd buy it again. Very nice for the start-up small business or general home use.

Lexmark X75 Multifunction Printer Review

Lexmark X75 Multifunction Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this printer a few months ago not because my previous printer had failed but because I simply couldn't use my scanner and printer at the same time. This printer had just been released and there was little information but I took a chance and have been incredibly happy with it since.
Most of the complaints I see here seem to be a problem of unrealistic expectations. This unit is NOT a fax machine. You can scan something into your computer and fax it using a modem but that's another story. This unit is NOT a laser printer nor is it a high end photo printer. It is also NOT a stand alone copying machine. It is printer that scans and copies.
I found the installation to be simple - follow the instructions that come with it and you'll be fine - be careful aligning the print cartridges (its easy but just don't blow it off) and the print quality will be significantly better. I installed the software and was a little worried when I went to print the first time and the familiar print setup page was replaced with a huge assortment of options. My worry was quickly replaced with excitement - you can store your printing preferences! If you are like me you don't need to print every webpage in beautiful color, its a waste of time and ink, so I have a setting for Black & White Draft, works like a charm.
Now I must admit that the black and white printing is not any better than my old Lexmark - inkjets are inkjets. The color and picture quality though is significantly better. Using the best printing option on photo paper it was hard to tell it came from an inkjet. I have found the photocopying and scanning to be nice and clear as well.
Overall I'm very pleased with this space saving printer.

Brother MFC-3100C Inkjet Multifunction Review

Brother MFC-3100C Inkjet Multifunction

I have recently purchased this machine for fax and mostly black and white print jobs for my home office. Since then I have purchased a digital camera, and have found this machine produces great framable pictures!!! I would highly recomend this machine for anyone who shops around and wants the most features and quality for the price. I have used up a few ink cartridges printing larger 8x10 photos, but the individual ink cartridges make it easy and cost effective to use. The only thing I am missing is a flatbed, but so far I haven't needed it and have been able to scan pictures through the document feeder. Also a great color copier.

Brother contributes another smart machine (at a smart price) to the multifunction market with this 5-in-1 combination of color fax, color printer, color copier, color scanner, and computer-based fax.
As a printer, the MFC-3100C can produce 10 pages per minute of black and white and eight pages per minute of color, at up to 2,400 x 1,200 resolution (naturally, the higher resolutions are a little slower printing). The 100-sheet paper cassette keeps you always in stock.
As a full-color fax machine, the MFC-3100C features 2 MB of memory, storing up to 100 pages, and 14.4 bps speed, delivering a page roughly every six seconds. With 40 station auto-dialing, the machine also can broadcast faxes to 90 locations. In addition, the MFC-3100C is equipped with a Brother PC Fax Driver, enabling you to send black-and-white faxes from your PC.
The MFC-3100C's scanner function can scan at up to 2,400 dpi, and one-touch keys allow for scanning directly to e-mail or OCR. When it comes to making copies, the MFC5100c can print up to 99 copies at a time at 1,200 x 1,200 dpi resolution. Copies can be reduced and enlarged from 25 percent to 400 percent.
With parallel and USB interfaces, the MFC-3100C is cross-platform compatible, working with Works with Windows and iMac/iBook/G3/G4, with parallel and USB interfacing (cables not included). The unit is backed by a one-year limited warranty.

Lexmark X2470 Color All-in-One Inkjet Printer Review

Lexmark X2470 Color All-in-One Inkjet Printer

The print quality of this printer STINKS, simple as that. Just to print a simple manuscript in black ink, the black ink is not black enough. It made my professional manuscript have a fuzzy-gray character to it. When I want to print in bold letters, it is hard to tell the bold print with regular print because the black print option is not black enough. Again my bold print look like a fuzzy-gray as if a person who lost his reading glasses. That is how fuzzy the print quality is on this printer. When I print in color the color contrast is TERRIBLE. I tested this printer on a picture I downloaded from the internet. The print was nothing...nothing like the color internet picture. It had very poor color contrast and the picture I printed did not even look like what was on the internet. Overall this printer is of poor quality and poor printing quality absolutely.
You know, I had an old Lexmark Z-32 printer. Man that was a very good printer because it had excellent print quality. The Z-32 printed in vivid black letters when I want to write a basic letter. It also had great color contrast for color pictures I wanted to print from the internet. However I wanted to upgrade, hence I bought this Lexmark X2470 printer. It is sad that Lexmark came out with the x2470 but the old Z-32 from the mid to late 1990's was way better than this piece of junk x2470 they make today. Lexmark has really let me down. I really was a fan and proponent of Lexmark products. However, I'm not anymore. I'm seriously considering switching to HP, Epson or Cannon. I got to find a way to get rid of my x2470 to someone who may like it, if I can find someone who likes it.
