We bought this item for our small architectural office. The feeder saves us time and is very easy to use. The feeder costs more than the scanner, but it is worth purchasing if you have several documents (especially double-sided ones)to scan every 1-2 weeks.

I just ordered this scanner a few days ago and it arrived very quickly, it was so simple to install a 5 year old could do it, just put in the software, push install, and plug 1 cord into the back of your comp and the other into a wall socket and you are ready to go. The software that came with it is great, and it scans under 10 seconds on 200 dpi, It has the most beautiful quality scans i have ever seen in both grayscale, and color. It's just amazing! I love the preview feature! it has a real-time preview feature where you can change, contrast, lighting, etc and see it happen while you are doing it, so you know exactly what it looks like when you scan it. I encourage everyone who needs a scanner or just wants one to get this one! it's the best!

HP Scanjet N9120 Document Flatbed Scanner Review

HP Scanjet N9120 Document Flatbed Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm exceedingly happy with this, my 6th scanner purchase. I've come from a long line of almosts and nearly-theres with my previous scanners, at least when it comes to speed, capacity and ease of use. My first few scanners were the cheap, single-user type, not possessing ADFs for any real business use. Those were followed by an HP Scanjet 8290, which was fairly good, but suffered from too many ADF misfeeds. Next came a Fujitsu fi-5220C, which was faster and more competent at ADF work, but much less user-friendly, and more laborious in its required user input per scan.
Now, at last, I can say I'm almost perfectly happy with a scanner. This N9120 is incredibly fast, creates high-quality images (especially with the included Kofax VRS, which hardly seems to slow things down at all), is terrifically easy to use (including HP's software interface), has adequately capacious in-and-out bins, and looks great as a physical object.
Here are the minor quibbles (and they're not deal-breakers; I'd buy this again if I were in a situation that was appropriate): (1) It's quite loud for a scanner, requiring high-speed fans to cool its internal parts (think of the sound of a truly enormous copy machine in the copier room of a large place of business; that's what this sounds like). (2) It's enormous - be prepared to need far more desk/table space for it than you imagine. (3) It's incredibly heavy and unwieldy, so plan on having two people to unpack it and place it on a table. (4) If you forgo the excellence of Kofax and opt instead for sheer speed in a scan of a large number of pages, you can turn them sideways (that's how big this thing is) ----- BUT there can be a startling number of misfeeds when you do that. My very first scan of an 80-page stack that I inserted sideways resulted in 3 misfeeds - and it's somewhat hard to tell which of the last few pages were and were not successfully scanned. But going a little slower, inserting them in portrait fashion and using Kofax - no misfeeds at all. And finally, (5) It's size and weight mean that, just like any other serious office machine, you'll have to call for a service visit if it breaks down, rather than sending it in somewhere. And from browsing HP's site, it is truly expensive to have a tech come out to service it.

Canon DR-5020 Large-Capacity Document Scanner Review

Canon DR-5020 Large-Capacity Document Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This item is not what you think it is! It's from way back in 1995, which is a technological ice age ago. It requires a 40 pin SCSI cable to run (which is tricky for the average non-IT person to install). It requires special software to run it, and it doesn't scan to PDF. Yes, that's right, no PDFs. I am in the process of returning one I just bought and I cannot tell you how disappointed we were in it. The one we bought had other issues, though, like falling apart and not working due to mechanical issues. This one may be in perfect working order, but just know what you are getting into. Buyer beware.

Microtek ScanMaker 5600 Scanner Review

Microtek ScanMaker 5600 Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just recently bought this scanner for scanning in old photo albums as well as old newspaper and magazine clippings. For the versatility and quality of this machine you are getting a bargain. the four-up scanning saves a lot of time. The Microtek will allow you to scan in a variety of different formats so you no longer need to convert tiffs to jpegs-you can just scan into jpegs or gifs or whatever you want. It is great because you are able to save each picture as its own file. It comes with a utility that allows you to do color balancing and tone changes before you scan. You can also use this scanner to copy straight to your printer as well as doing one touch text and email functions. Bottom line, a great scanner at a good price.

Hobbyists and small businesses will greatly benefit from the versatility and value of the Microtek Scanmaker 5600. Its 4,800 x 2,400 dpi optical resolution (9,600 dpi enhanced) and 48-bit color infuse your images with outstanding clarity and richness, enhanced by the Sigma 6-CCD technology, which provides six image sensors, rather than the traditional three.
Five one-touch operating buttons make the 5600 simple to use when copying, e-mailing, or scanning images directly to the Web. The maximum scan area is 8.5 by 11 inches, and the 4-up scanning allows up to four photos at once.
The scanner connects to your PC or Macintosh via USB interface, and it includes a software bundle of Adobe imaging products (Adobe Photoshop LE 5.0, Adobe PhotoDeluxe 4.0, and Adobe Acrobat Reader), as well as Ulead PhotoExplorer, ABBYY FineReader Sprint OCR, Kodak Digital Science Color Management, and Microtek management utilities. A USB cord and power cable are in the box, and Microtek provides a one-year warranty.

Setup was a mere unpack, unlock, plug-in, load software & begin scanning. The software package is comparable to Adobe & most other TWAIN-ware. The performance exceeded my expectations. I require high resolution / high color depth duplication -- and I got it! Coupled with a high-resolution printer, I was able to obtain first-use results approaching that of the original photo. The PaperPort software provides sufficient tweaks & adjustments to give quick & impressive results. The scanned image quality rivals that of other products costing much more.

Epson GT-15000 Professional Scanner Review

Epson GT-15000 Professional Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received my 15000 two days ago, and set-up took briefly about five minutes. The only difficulty I had was finding where to place it in my crowded studio. It fit perfectly on a microwave stand with casters, close enough to connect to my CPU, but the advantage is that I can move it if needed. I got this scanner because my smaller Epson 3490 has only an 8.5 X 11 bed, and I was weary of stitching two halves of a larger object back together in PhotoShop. That's not difficult, but each half needs color correction to mate and sometimes there are irregularities which need fixing.
My first scan with the GT-15000 was of an 11 X 17 piece of black & white art of mine, and it turned out beautifully crisp and sharp. I plan to use my 15000 to primarily scan my black & white illustrative art for publishing, and so far it looks to do that job with ease. I highly recommend this Epson to those needing a large bed scanner.

I was looking for something that I could use to scan personal documents. I ran across a write-up on this scanner in the electronic version of PC Mag. I figured, "why not?" For the price, you can't beat it. Even if it turns out to be a bad choice it's only $50.00, right? I have to tell you that this was the best electronic item that I have purchased in many, many years. It actually does what it's supposed to do; does it quickly and in several different document formats. Also, all documentation is straight and to the point -- no computer-ese required. I would recommend this to anyone -- especially when you have color photos you would like to scan and email or for those pesky documents that only real estate agents and insurance companies use. File formats are .pdf, jpeg, .bmp and tiff. An amazing little machine.

Canon 3923B002 Document Scanner Review

Canon 3923B002 Document Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
i put "document" in quotes for this item, because i found it very odd that, upon complete set-up, there was no built-in feature on their software for OCR! we had an old scanner that had OCR built right into the main interface. this scanner, however, does not. it requires you to scan a tiff, then run it through the separate OCR software that comes with it. not a huge dealbreaker alone, but an additional step that costs time, especially when processing a mountain of documents. so, i'm not entirely sure why they market this scanner as a document scanner when really it's PDF-making machine.
this is our second 2020u, as the first one decided to stop working on day two. however, customer service was friendly, helpful, and fast. we got our replacement scanner, free of any charge, the next day. this one has been running fairly smoothly, however paper gets "jammed" constantly. i say "jammed" because it's not really stuck, it just seems like the scanner got tired of scanning halfway through the page and stops and claims there's a jam. i wouldn't point this out if it weren't happening every ten pages.
we haven't used business card scanning, fax or email functions with this one yet. but it is a slick little machine, and it handles PDF creation just fine!

This scanner is great for 11x17 scans. I'm a textile designer and need to scan large fabric prints and this scanner, for the price, is awesome!
The functions are easy and scanning time is faster than I thought. I used to have a HP scanner and that took forever...not to mention the warm up time. But, this scanner has a relatively quick warm up and scanning time.
The only reason I gave it a 4 star instead of 5 is because there is a little 1/4" fish bowl effect at the edges of the scans. But, I have to piece together prints anyways, so it's not that big of a deal. For the price, it's still well worth it.

This scanner handles most snapshot sizes and handles them very quickly. If you have hundreds of snapshots you want to digitize and don't feel comfortable sending them out to a service, this is a good solution. Epson GT-20000 B11B195011 High Performance Scanner (White) Review

Epson GT-20000 B11B195011 High Performance Scanner (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Great large-format scanner. It's a work horse--not many frills, but very competent. I use it almost exclusively for document scanning (mostly music), and mostly at 600dpi. While I've done some photo scans, I'm not competent to judge their quality, other than that I subjectively like them better than my $100 Canon scanner.
I'd love to see someone compare this scanner to the Epson $2500 model, for performance *and* quality. (For my use, performance at 600dpi is more important than the scanner's absolute best quality at its max optical dpi.)
PROs: Large format; document good scan quality; Much faster than $100 letter-sized scanners; nice lid (easily removable, flexible positioning); reasonable software bundle.
CONs: Big (probably true of all large format scanners); cooling fan is a bit loud, but does turn off after about 5 minutes of non-use.

Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB 2400 Pro Scanner Review

Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB 2400 Pro Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been searching, tediously for a wide format scanner for over a year and the cheapest I could find that worked with Windows 7 was and an Epson for $1,047. And Honestly I couldn't afford that. I'm a freelance cartoonist who works on large sized Bristol. I gave up hope and desided to save some money to purchase that Epson in a few months.
Then out of nowhere Mustek comes out with an upgrade to their old wide format scanner. For only [...] bucks, I was in awe to see its specs and price. I ordered it right away, almost not thinking twice. The Software is a bit confusing, but if you worked with any kind of scanner in the past it isn't impossible to grow accustom to. It looks nice and isn't an eye sore as a lot of others were. But more importantly was the quality of scanning. I took out an old comic page and scanned it as soon as I had it connected and the software was installed.
The only thing I am a little disappointed in was that you can't select the DPI specifically. It has 3 settings, "Normal" "Fine" and "Very Fine. I'm assuming very fine is the 2400 DPI that was listed on its specs. Honestly that's my only complaint as of now... I had it for going on one week and I'm very pleased with it.
Once you have the software completely installed, you don't even need to open up the program when you want to scan. You simply have to open the scanners lid and PRESTO! The program automatically loads on screen. It scans pretty quickly as well, my pages are highly detailed with hatching and values, it takes roughly 30 seconds per page and all I have to do it load it into Photoshop and touch it up a little as I always to with any scan and the image is perfect. It also has some sound effects that remind me of a lot about Samsung Products, You know it has a retro sounding NES feel to it, which I personally like and think it an interesting touch.
I give this a 4/5 because... The DPI settings is a little confusing, the physical frame is a little delicate frame and because I rarely give out 5's. But I'd rather save the 700 - 1500 bucks and get this then a 5 star Epson. I haven't heard much of Mustek and this is my first product of theirs, but as far as I can see it's a very promising company which made a promising product that saved me a butt load of cash. And this Artist recommends it, especially for you comic artist out there looking for a cheap but good big boy scanner.

If you are looking for a scanner that can scan a full page of comic art in one pass then look no further. No more scanning in pieces and cutting and pasting pages together. The scan area has enough room for a full sized 11" x 17" comic page with room to spare. The extra software isn't great or bad, if you are already scanning into your chosen software you probably won't use it. Plus it's about the hardware and I am so glad I got this scanner, it has made scanning pages a lot easier.

HP ScanJet 5590 Digital FlatBed Scanner Review

HP ScanJet 5590 Digital FlatBed Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been looking for a reasonably priced duplex ADF scanner for some time now, I want to scan a file cabinet of documents and shred the originals. I thought this HP was it, it isn't. I spent several hours over a few days giving this guy a workout. I scanned stacks of bank statements (30-35 pages at a time) (8.5 x 11) and mortgage documents (8.5 x 14) both single sided and double sided. Several times the ADF jammed (roller slipped and eventually gave up) and I had to man handle the stuck page out, I could find no way to release its grasp of the paper. These were not glossy pages, just typical bank statements. Other times one or two pages of a stack of 35 would scan in only a third of the page. It cannot scan duplex pages longer then 12 inches, I don't know why. Duplex scanning takes more then twice as long as simplex because it has only a single scanner and must flip the page (I think it does this flipping twice). The software wasn't smart enough to handle scanning mix length pages, if I had a document (for example: mortgage papers) with a mix of letter and legal size pages I had to tell the software that all the pages were 14 inches long otherwise it truncated the legal size to 11 inches. It all boils down to a lack of trust for me. Before I go shredding originals of these documents I need to be able to trust that I have good electronic copies and this scanner/software didn't establish that trust.

Epson WorkForce GT-1500 B11B190011 Document Imaging Scanner (White) Review

Epson WorkForce GT-1500 B11B190011 Document Imaging Scanner (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This scanner uses LEDs as a light source and so has zero warm-up time. The paper feeding system is very fast and and handles irregular sheets and ragged corners with no trouble. The scanner itself beats the HP 5550C I've been using.
Epson's scanner interface is not to my taste but has presets for office and graphic professional scanning needs. What keeps it from getting highest marks is the abysmal customer service.
I couldn't get the twain driver to work under Windows Vista. The WIA driver did work, but doesn't support acquisition from the sheet feeder (which defeats the whole purpose of buying this scanner). Lack of sheet feeder support is a crippling blow to the usability of Paperport (which I have used for years). Epson should not be bundling software that their own product does not support.
I spent hours on the phone with three levels of Epson's technical support to no avail. They tried to pawn me off on Nuance to get Paperport support (Nuance's policy is that software bundled with hardware is supported by the manufacturer of the hardware!)
One of the technicians I spoke to did not even know that twain and WIA were different drivers. How can they possibly address my problem when they have such poor background in the product?
The answer of course, is that Epson's support is provided by a call center in India or some such place and the support people are reading canned responses off a computer screen.
The level two technicians knew nothing more that the level one technicians. After a lengthy conversation with a level three technician I was promised a resolution and a return phone call, which as you might guess, never happened.
In the end, I was left to my own devices and discovered a workaround. Scan using the Epson interface (which does support the document feeder) and set its destination directory to the main Paperport directory.
Then open Paperport and manage your documents from there. Not as good as scanning directly from within Paperport, but it gets the job done.
