Well, I've been a faithful HP customer since the late 1980's.
I've had 3 HP printers, but this one is my LAST!!
I bought this model to use in my home office - basic stuff like
scanning papers or photos, printing shipping or address labels.
Not exactly new technology we're talking about here.
This printer is THE WORST!
For some reason, HP decided I was no longer smart enough to know how to check my
ink levels or align my printer, and wanted to do it for me. Well, okay, but here's the
kicker - EACH AND EVERY TIME YOU CHANGE EVEN ONE INK CARTRIDGE, this printer will print out
an "alignment page" that uses quite a bit of black ink, and also a little color ink.
EACH TIME. Also EACH TIME, I have to scan the stupid printout to make sure it is still "aligned".
You know, I used to be able to decide for myself if the printer was a little off, or the quality
wasn't what I was looking for. Those days are gone, and in their place is this ridiculous system
that not only forces a scan each time (and they are pretty slow), but wastes way too much ink.
HP ink is NOT cheap, and they are making sure you need it more often by these ridiculous alignment pages.
So far tonight, I changed the black ink cartridge, and it has printed out the alignment sheet TWICE,
despite my doing the scan. It didn't "take" somehow. So now I have two of these asinine sheets using
up my ink and still can't print a recipe yet.
Then let's touch base on the scanner. It does just fine for photos and flat papers.
If you have something that is 3D, then you are out of luck! I used to scan beads for selling
craft supplies online. My old HP scanner did a fantastic job on the scans, and I had better pictures of
the items than I could get with a digital camera. Then came the upgrades. I was forced to change to Vista
when my old HP computer bit the dust. I bought a new HP Pavilion with Vista preinstalled. I tried to hook up
my old scanner, and could not! The scanner wasn't that old and still worked great, but XP was the last supported program
for it, and HP would not put out an updated driver for it. (Grrrrr! Stop shaking me down to buy more equipment!)
Well, I had to have something, so I bought this all-in-one. I REALLY regret it now.
The scanner CANNOT do 3D items - you only get shadows on the edges, and only the parts actually touching
the glass will show up clearly. Resolution doesn't matter, because it just can't read 3D.
Then this irritating alignment sheet thing is the final deal breaker.
HP, you are wasting my time and my ink. I can get any printer to print, so why pay so much more
for your brand printer and high-cost ink? I'm done with you - the love affair of over a decade
is done.
It is very sad how HP quality continues to decline (was it because they merged with Compaq, or did they stop
caring about the quality of the products?). After having owned 4 Pavilion computers, 4 HP digital cameras,
3 printers and 1 scanner, I can say that I am no longer a loyal HP customer. They just don't care about the
product OR the customer any more, so it is time to be reciprocal in the lack of love. (And yes, I wrote to
customer service about it, and never received anything but the form email saying they got my email - never a
response, never an answer.)
Bye bye HP - it's time we broke up, and you take this piece of junk printer with you.
