Canon CL-52 Photo Ink Cartridge Review

ASIN B000AYH7X4 - Like almost all ink cartridges out there, it's overpriced. Unfortunately, since they're all overpriced, I can't really take away a star for that.
It's ink. It works, it runs out eventually, it's kind of hard to say much about an ink cartridge. Haven't yet had one clog up, but I do recommend storing in a plastic baggie if you won't be using it for a while.
On the very upside, and earning this cartridge (and any other from Canon) a big gold star from me - Canon runs a cartridge recycling program, with boxes available upon request from their website. I'm so impressed by the environmentally aware gesture that I'll stick with Canon as long as I can!

It's an ink cartridge that works in my printer. I buy original manufacturer's ink because I print high-quality photographs on an expensive printer and I don't need color issues or print head clogging issues. Quality printing demands quality ink. I'm happy with my Canon printer and the Canon ink.

Canon BCI-6R Red Ink Tank Review

Canon BCI-6R Red Ink Tank

This review is for Canon BCI-6 ink tanks. As I have found with all the Canon products I've owned, these are rather expensive, but are of excellent quality. Having owned other, less expensive, printer brands, and having been disappointed by them, I always opt for a Canon poduct if one is available in my price range. The ink, of course, is part of the bargain. I never refill and I never use non-Canon ink. While expensive, I feel the quality of the outcome is worth the price. I would, and do, recommend Canon to anyone considering a printer / copier purchase.

Brother Printer DCP7065DN Monochrome Laser Multi-Function Copier with Duplex and Networking Review

Brother Printer DCP7065DN Monochrome Laser Multi-Function Copier with Duplex and Networking
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this printer for a whole 10 hours, and only printed about 5-6 pages so far, but it's awesome! Setup on my Mac was a breeze. Hooked the printer up to the network and immediately got an IP with DHCP. I then attempted to use the standard PCL driver with a standard JetDirect port on my Mac running OSx 10.6.. but don't do this.. it seems that printing a single page will cause the printer to just print a blank page... and then another one.. and then..won't stop :P. Ohwell.. After loading the proper drivers, Mac nicely finds the printer over bonjour and automagically sets it up as a printer and scanner (whoo hoo).
The Ups:
- Fast printing -- From deep sleep to wake up it takes about 20 seconds to get the first page out (pretty darn decent for a printer under 200 bucks)
- Energy saving -- in deep sleep it consumes less than a watt
- Solid drivers/software that doesn't get in the way.. for mac at least (not sure about windows)
- Painless duplex printing
- Copying without the need of a computer
- Super light (25 lbs?) and small footprint
- Toner cartridges that don't cost an arm and a leg
- A button on the printer that stops the current print job (AND actually works.. unlike some lexmark and hp printers I've encountered which cancel jobs that HAVEN'T been started yet.. ugh.)The Downs:
- Automatic document feeding can't scan double sided... but kind of expected, although.. you can tell it to scan a stack of (one-sided) documents and print double-sided documents
- The scanner lid seems to be spring-loaded, so be gentle when closing the flatbed scanner
- The scanner lid only opens 45 degrees (not 90 degrees... maybe this is normal.. but my xerox copier goes all the way up.. ohwell)
-Getting this printer to work in Linux (ubuntu 11.04) was a little painful-- had to install the cups and lpr driver from the website.. but it's decently document on Brother's website, so check it out (hint: even though ubuntu "recommends" using the 7045 driver, dont.. use 7065dn.. using the 7045 will just send the printer data, and then the printer will just go back to sleep without printing anything).
So even with all the things that I don't like about the printer, I still highly recommend the printer, given the price and how many features brother packed into this model. I would totally recommend this printer to anyone in the need of b/w network printer.

Brother MFC-7340 Flatbed Laser Multi-Function Center Review

Brother MFC-7340 Flatbed Laser Multi-Function Center
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Have had this Brother MFC-7340 for about a month. As with most printers, it took a little time and care to set up and install on the first Acer Vista laptop. No problems, just the usual tedious walkthrough. Putting the drivers on a second HP Vista laptop was a breeze. It sleeps (powered off) on a desk and the family members turn it on and plug in their laptops when they want to print or scan. It is compact, has as small a footprint as can be expected for a flatbed device. Easy to lift and shift about with good handgrips on the sides.
We are very low-volume print/scan/copy users - Google docs is eliminating a lot of printing for school. This printer is available quickly from a cold start, important for us once- or twice-a-weekers. We don't really even use the document feeder. A wireless network (and/or a duplex) printer might have been more convenient, but this guy was available for for less than $150 including a TN330 toner cartridge for the day the included cartridge runs out. It uses standard Brother toner cartridges and drum replacements, so I expect to be able to get quality renewables for the life of the device. I choose a laser after having problems with an inkjet for our extremely intermittent use.
Why not five stars? This is not a printer for office or heavy home use. It has basic functions. It is lightly built and needs a gentle touch. Perfect for us, but if you need a medium duty device, this is not it.Brother MFC-7340 Flatbed Laser Multi-Function CenterBrother TN330 Black Toner Cartridge

HP Photosmart Plus Wireless e-All-in-One Printer (CN216A#B1H) Review

HP Photosmart Plus Wireless e-All-in-One Printer (CN216A#B1H)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The printer was packaged in a light weight tote bag in the box, so I could just easily pull out the printer. In the box, there was a complementary 4x6 glossy photo paper (100pack) with a set of ink. A power cable and a brick came in a reusable cloth pouch, and I thought that was very nice idea since it's less trash and easily recyclable.

Setting up the printer couldn't be easier, even with wifi set up. I took about 15-20 minutes to set up everything: wifi, hp software, and the first time printer warm up. I also did not need to connect any USB cable to set up; instead, I was able to connect to my wifi network without any hassle. This printer alone acts like a computer, and it included a step by step set up assistant on the main screen, which was great. The instructions might show only WEP for security option, but I was able to connect to WPA2 with no problem, even in the closed network (airport extreme.) And since this printer has wifi connectivity, I didn't need any extra equipment to buy, and I figured that's why the printer didn't come with a USB cable.

Printing was also as easy as pie. I was satisfied with the sharp and fast printing result in both b/w and color documents. What was more satisfying is photo printing. I tried professionally prepared images on this printer (4x6 photo glossy, in photoshop with proper setting) and the result was better than my expensive Epson photo printer. I was surprised how accurate the color was, although de-saturated black and white photo print showed a bit of green cast.

Scanning and copying also do their job very well. I was able to scan easily with or without HP software on Mac. Copying is another simple and cool feature. I didn't even need my computer on. All I needed to do was press one button. If you need to change setting on any features, you can do that as well with no effort on its easy UI screen.

Apps! I never knew printers had apps. Yes, why not? As I mentioned, this printer acts like a computer, and it's connected to the Internet. Applications included: Yahoo and MSNBC, PBS Kids (great for coloring sheets!!!), Sudoku, Disney, USA Today, Quick Forms, Dreamworks, recipes, Nickelodeon, weather, and coupons. It's just amazing what printers can do now. My three old son saw me printing a coloring page from PBS Kids app, and now he can just do that by himself, similarly as if he was navigating an Iphone. (Actually the screen looks like a big Iphone.) Also, I can manage these apps from the HP website that my printer is connected to (registration required.)

Snapfish is another nice feature about this printer. There is a SD/MMC card slot that this printer can read photo files for printing and uploading/sharing to snapfish. With this HP photo smart printer, I really don't need a computer to print photos and share online with friends and family. I only wish this printer had a USB slot instead of a SD/MMC card only slot. I know SD/MMC cards are kind of standard these days, yet there are also people with CF cards and other types.

The most advanced feature this printer can offer, I think, is the ePrint. This printer has its own email address, so just by sending an email to the printer, it will print out documents and photos. This is really useful if you have a smart phone and don't want to buy a printing app which usually isn't cheap. When I emailed a word file for testing, it printed immediately. Also, attached a jpg photo file to the email printed the attached photograph on the photo paper pulled from tray. The printer automatically decided where to print (between regular paper and photo paper) depending on the file type I sent to the email, which I can also manage in the setting.

Finally, if you have an iphone, you will love this feature. There is a photo printing app (HP iPrint) from HP in the app store for free. I was able to print photos from my iphone instantly(under same wifi network). I was so happy with this that I printed more than 50 photos, and the results were just wonderful. One thing I noticed was the photos were slightly lighter than what I see on my Iphone screen.

There are a couple of things I'd like to mention. This printer has a speaker somewhere so it makes button sounds. Since the buttons on the touch screen are pressure sensitive (I might be wrong), it's neat to hear that button sound when I press something. I didn't have to wonder whether the button was really pressed when touched. And this printer falls asleep after idle time; the illuminated power button will then start breathing (Mac computers do this during sleep mode. However, when the printer receives email or jobs, it wakes up instantly and starts printing. This may not be very important, but I could tell that HP paid attention to details when they made this printer.
Overall, this printer is most definitely worth the purchase. I have not stopped fiddling with this printer since I received it. I guarantee consumers will be happy with HP (finally!).
UPDATE
HP just updated their iPrint iphone app as universal binary some days ago, so it works beautiful on my iPad as well. Great for printing my kid's iPad art work !!!!!

HP Officejet 6500A e-All-in-One (CN555A#B1H) Review

HP Officejet 6500A e-All-in-One (CN555A#B1H)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used only Hewlett-Packard printers since I bought my computer a decade ago, in 2001. My choice was simple, as these printers earn high ratings year after year. I print out a lot of photography for both family photos and magazine photos, and also regular printing. I also write and print an abundance of family history pages and articles for a collectibles magazine. I use my printers heavy duty and I am on my second printer since 2001. My HP printers have a life span of around 5 years, which is unheard of, as the average printers lifespan is around 2 years. My printers have always been the HP Ink Jet Photosmart models as they give me the best quality photographs, both color and black and white, on my favorite HP soft gloss paper. Laser ink doesn't come close in comparison to the rich saturated colors of Inkjet ink. Photographs, Art and Pictures come to life with an Inkjet printer. The only thing the average person should know is that inkjet ink runs if it gets wet, so for shipping labels always cover them in clear tape. For more permanently protected photos, go to an arts/crafts store and buy a can of photo protectant spray. The extra covering gives you a lifetime of protected treasures.

This is the first time I have tried a non-photo printer, using this HP Officejet 6500A All In One model. If you are wondering what the difference is between a photo printer and an office printer- it's the colors. With my Photosmart, I have 2 extra light ink colors- cyan (blue) and magenta (pink) shades. These 2 extra ink shades give you a full array of even the slightest color variations. Working in art and photography, I noticed a slight color difference in certain shades. For a professional artist making photographs or great color prints, this is not the printer for you. For the average office or home use, non-professional photo prints or just needing a regular printer, this printer is superb.

This HP Officejet 6500A All In One machine includes 4 devices- a printer, copier, scanner and fax machine. What you get for the money is one great machine. This machine has earned the Energy Star, which means it will save you money, since it met the Energy Star program's test method criteria. Energy Star's savings rating on this machine, states you will use 40% less energy than on any comparable laser machine. I look for Energy Star's ratings whenever I buy any appliance, as saving energy means saving both fuel and money. Another big money saver is buying the HP inks in the XL sizes. I've been doing this since HP came out with these extra large ink sizes with my HP Photosmart, and it is a huge money saver.

I've been using this machine every day for a while and I will rate each of it's 4 devices separately so the consumer can see if this fits his/her needs. To begin with, this machine works with the supporting operating systems of Microsoft Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP (with SP2) ,Mac OSX v 10.5, 10.6 and Linox. The machine itself measures 18.75 inches x 16.11 inches x 10.13 inches. It weighs almost 18 pounds. Inside the box is your 4 in one Officejet machine, the power cord, phone cord, booklet and cd software and all 4 ink jet cartridges- black, yellow, cyan and magenta. Not included is the USB cable. Installation took mere minutes with the cd software on my Windows XP. As with all their printers, HP includes a limited 1 year warranty. Now I will rate the 4 devices.

PRINTER- 5 Stars- You can print anywhere with this machine using your computer, mobile phone, laptop or mobile device. The tray supported paper sizes are letter, legal, statement, executive, 3 x 5, 4 x 6, 5 x 7, 5 x 8, 4 x 10, 4 x 11, 4 x 12, 8 x 10, envelopes no. 10, monarch and envelopes DL. The input tray takes up to 250 sheets with a duty cycle of up to 7000 pages. Maximum printing speeds are up to 32 pages per minute with black ink and up to 31 for color- speeds equivalent to laser printers. This does not have duplex printing features (2 sided). It does have borderless printing options. You can use your memory cards for direct photo printing. You can by-pass your PC by inserting a memory card in one of the slots and use the 2.36 inch touch screen to print. The memory cards supported are secure digital- also high capacity, multimedia and secure multimedia card, reduced size multimedia card, mmc mobile and mmc micro mini (adapter not included), memory stick and memory stick duo and pro. The 4 inks used are the HP 920 cartridges and you can definitely save when you buy the XL sizes. With the regular HP 920 Black ink cartridge, you get approximately 420 pages. With an XL black ink cartridge you get up to 1200 pages. With all the XL color cartridges of yellow, cyan and magenta, you can get up to 700 pages. The cartridges are recyclable. This is not a wireless machine. When printing in color from your computer, using a good brand of paper, you will get the best resolution of up to 4800 x 1200 optimized dpi. You can get up to 600 from black ink. The printer, although not as good as my Photosmart when it comes to endless color variation, is extremely superb in printing both pages and photos.

COPIER- 4 1/2 Stars- You can copy in color up to 31 cpm and in black up to 32 cpm. The maximum number of copies is up to 100. The copy scaling is from 25 to 100%. The copier is quite good and rates above average.

SCANNER- 4 1/2 Stars- I am quite spoiled with always owning an Epson Perfection Photo Scanner for the last 10 years. So I am comparing a truly perfect scanner with this HP one that is included in this All In One machine. This Scanner type is a Flatbed 8.5 x 11.7 and also an ADF 8.5 x 14. These are good maximum document sizes for general use and office use scanning. It does have real life technologies with a 48 bit scanner depth. The scanner resolution for optical is up to 4800 dpi. This scans above average, but not quite as sharp as my Epson Perfection scanner. I notice tiny minute details from spending decades fixing old photos from the late 1800's, so the average person might call this scanner excellent, where I consider this above average as I am used to much more pixel detail I get from my Epson Perfection.

FAX MACHINE- 5 STARS- This Fax Machine has a transmission speed of 3 seconds per page. The Fax resolution is up to 300 x 300 dpi. The incoming fax memory is up to 100 pages, with fax speed dials up to 100 numbers. You can fax fast at up to 33.6 kpbs. The connectivity is a standard built in ethernet with a USB 2.0. There is no wireless capability. You can quickly fax or scan to a PC or Email. With this built in ethernet, you can stay connected and share resources. The speed and smoothness on this efficient fax machine give it a high 5 star rating with me.

Overall, this HP Officejet 6500A All In One gets a 4.75 STAR rating from me, with it's usual great printer, super fast fax, and better than average copier and scanner. Many of my friends have some of the latest All In One Machines that I have heard complaints about, from the bugs and how non smoothly they run. This machine is unbelievably smooth and fast and when more people use and review it, it will definitely rank high on the Hewlett Packard website. It is actually better than some of their other models I've heard about, and may prove to be their best model to date. Add to this Hewlett Packard's great support and web site that helps you with any problems, downloads, drivers and manuals, and you have a great 4 in one printer, copier, scanner and fax machine for the money.

Epson Artisan 835 Color Inkjet All-In-One (C11CA73201) Review

Epson Artisan 835 Color Inkjet All-In-One (C11CA73201)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Artisan 835 to replace an HP C6280 that I'd had for about three years. Initially, I liked the HP printer. According to QualityLogic.com, the C6280 is one of HP's most economical printers in terms of cost of ink per page. However, I found that when it came to printing photos, the C6280 was hit and miss. Sometimes with a some experimentation, I could get a decent print. Other times, I'd give up in frustration after several tries. I also got inconsistent results with the C6280's scanner, and I found HP's software increasingly bloated and difficult to use.
I decided to get an Epson Artisan after reading what digital photographers said about the quality of its photo prints and looking at some samples prints at a local store. I was somewhat wary of reports that the Artisans were "ink hogs." Although I've used HP printers for many years, I was willing to give Epson a try. I've been very satisfied with my decision.
Setting up the 835 was a breeze. I have it networked to three wireless laptops, two wired desktop PCs and a wireless desktop PC. I was pleasantly surprised that installing Epson's software was fast and easy. The first test I performed was making a 4 x 6 print of a photo that I'd never been able to get quite right with my HP printer. To my amazement, the 835 produced a flawless print on the first attempt without any adjustments. I immediately tried some other prints, including a few 8 x 10s. Only in one case in which an image was not properly cropped did I feel the need to make more than one print. Printing photos is now a joy.
I found the scanner fast and easy to use. The scanning results are also impressive. The ability to create and print labels for CDs and DVDs is a welcome capability. The fax, duplexer, document feeder and PictBridge port (which can double as a USB charger) are useful features. The touch screen menu is very intuitive.
Although I think the Artisan 835 is worthy of five stars, it's not perfect. The paper drawer is flimsy and the simple act of properly aligning paper in it can be a pain. In printing two-sided documents on plain paper -- even when using 24-pound paper -- the ink sometimes bleeds or shows through. If document printing is your primary use, you might be happier with an HP printer. The 835 is a large printer, so make sure you have plenty of space before you buy it.
The most important thing I've learned is that when it comes to photo printers, "ink hog" is a relative term. Although the cost of prints produced by my HP C6280 are slightly less than those printed with the Artisan 835, the fact that I can almost always produce a high-quality print on the first attempt makes the overall cost of the 835's ink far less. For digital photographers who want an all-in-one that produces fantastic prints, the Artisan 835 is tough to beat.

Though this scanners' price is a bargain, you get much more than you pay for. The set up is easy, just plug it in and scan away. The resolution is great, and for those photos where your badside is showing there are a myriad of editing options available, so you can always look your beat, even when you don't. I have also scanned documents and had great results. If you are looking for a home scanner this is a great bargain with top quality software, this is it.

Canon DR-3010C Duplex Sheetfed Scanner Review

Canon DR-3010C Duplex Sheetfed Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this about four months ago, and am very satisfied. It works well
The unit set up easily and without a hitch. The ability to call up several pre-designated (by me) programs from buttons on the scanner is very nice (eg "1" is set up as 300 dpi b/w single sided to PDF, "2" is the same but double-sided, etc.) Very convenient. I have not had a problem with jams, and have scanned a fair number of sheets so far (I'd guess 5,000). I've also run some photos through, and it has done a good job of converting them to a 600 dpi .tif file. The unit is much more compact than the previous Canon sheet-fed scanner I was using and works well on my desk.
My only irritation is that if there is a jam (I have occasionally left staples in, etc.) it can't recover smoothly but just starts a new document. That has to be cleaned up later by opening the first document and then appending any others that have also been produced. Other scanners are more sophisticated in this, and I assume it it entirely a software issue that might eventually be resolved.
I try to run a mostly paperless office, and this is the third sheet-fed scanner I have owned. It is the least expensive, and definitely the best. Highly recommended.

Canon CanoScan LiDE 35 Scanner Review

Canon CanoScan LiDE 35 Scanner

Canon has some fantastic optics for photo scanning. So does Epson. I wanted to scan photos every now and then and maybe archive old photos, so great photo optics was important. Canon, known for great digital cameras, has the same quality in the scanners. Why this over the 3170? This is half the price, smaller (about 1/3 in height), and looks great. It fit about 4 4x6 photos on the scanner, use the multi-scan at 600 dpi and works fine. Sometimes though, I think the autocropping could be better. It took all of 5 minutes to set up and use. It does not need a separate power adapter as it uses the USB for power. Its quiet and fast.
I have done over 600 scans so far. Works like a charm. Its so fast, I can scan about 75 to 100 pictures an hour!

What can't you use a scanner for these days? Whether you're archiving old family heirloom photos or emailing a print article to a friend across the country, the Canon Lide35 scanner does what you need it to do, easily, without taking up much valuable desktop space. A patented Z-lid design allows you to smoothly accommodate thicker originals like magazines and yearbooks, even though the scanner itself measures just 1.5 inches thick. A stand is included to store it in an upright position, and a single cable supplies power and a USB connection. Even better, the cable's included in the box.
Both color and monochrome images come through cleanly, thanks to a 1,200 optical dpi and an interpolated resolution of 9,600 x 9,600 dpi. The included pack of scanning software provides you with plenty of options for storing, sending, and retouching; the scanner will automatically take care of scratches or lint on your originals, freeing your time to let you organize rather than repair them. Canon includes a one-year warranty covering parts and service.

Wasp WDI4500 2D Barcode Scanner Review

Wasp WDI4500 2D Barcode Scanner

We use 2 different 2D barcode readers at work and this one is far superior to the other (a Honeywell... I think it's 30206?).
The Honeywell has a large red illuminated area and a much smaller blue box inside that area. The blue box is the "hotspot". This Wasp reader uses a cross hair instead. Both are perfectly adequate, but my preference is the cross hair.
Both barcode readers can read even very small QR Codes (they both do several others, too, but this is what I'm using everyday) but the Wasp reads them faster.
My primary preference to the Wasp, however, comes from the fact that it is deadly accurate. The Honeywell will sometimes misread and insert funny characters. The Wasp has never done that (as far as I've noticed). I think accuracy is the most important feature of a barcode reader and the Wasp has yet to make a mistake.
The reader comes with a book of configurations that you can set--pretty much anything I could think of any many other things besides.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
