IntelliScanner Comic Edition Review

IntelliScanner Comic Edition
Average Reviews:

I bought this product with the assumption that the scanner would would allow me to scan my comics into their database software, creating an inventory of my collection. I could not be farther from the truth. Looking at their site, one would think that the scanner actually enters some information into the software: wrong. When you wish to enter a comic into the program, first you click the "add series" button, and type the name of the series. Not scan the barcode of the comic: manually type the name of the comic. Then you parse through a list of possible names (depending on title: x-men and star wars bringing up huge lists, for example) to find the one you wanted. Chose the target. The you click "add issues." Manually type in a range of issues. 1-10, 15, 16-35 for example. Still, no scanning. You see, the scanner is ONLY USED when you create custom barcodes with the program and print them yourself. If you're like me and looking for software that can handle having barcodes scanned into it, then try the Comic edition over at Collectorz.com. Steer clear of this. And as for the excuse I've heard bantered about that comics aren't meant to be scanned, my personal Uncanny X-men collection which starts at issue 101 has unique bar codes. That's 36 years of unique barcodes (and it took some serious boredom to scan through a stack of them looking at those numbers and comparing, but oh well). I've found a few oddballs in my collection without barcodes, but out of 13 long boxes, I estimate well over 90% to have barcodes. As attractive a presentation as this product has, I really wish it had the functionality to claims to have as well.

Informatics WASP WWS 800 CHARGER WITH RADIO ( 633808920043 ) Review

Informatics WASP WWS 800 CHARGER WITH RADIO ( 633808920043 )
Average Reviews:

Maybe a tiny bit better bargain than I imagined. This box includes, the charging base / USB connector / radio; a battery; the USB/Radio cable; an A/C adapter; and a bazillion world prongs for the adapter. The description seemed to say this was only a base with radio and an A/C adapter - the battery was a bonus.
Informatics sells the most confusing line of barcode readers here on Amazon. There is no single kit to purchase.
There is nothing special about this black plastic base. The big hole accepts the handle end of the barcode reader, and the slot in the rear accepts a spare battery. The barcode reader itself glows solid red when the battery is charged. There is no indicator on the base that the battery is fully charged (the LED glows red whenever the battery is inserted correctly.
There is a computer connector at the back in which you plug in the radio to USB adapter.

Ccd Contact Barcode Scanner PS/2 Light Rugged Design Black Review

This is a marvel! Take it out of the box, plus in the USB cable to your computer and it works!! Just like that. No configuring. No hassle. I'm cataloguing my personal library of DVD's, Blurays, and books, and have been barcoding away since this was delivered last week. I am delighted. I have been using it with gurulib.com and librarything.com and it delivers information directly to the websites about the movies and books I've scanned in. The only downside is that it can't put the books back up on the shelves for me, but I will shortly have libraries in which it is easy to find what I want by genre, author/director, or title.

Average Reviews:

a friend sent me a link to this "great deal on barcode scanners" so I guess my view was skewed because I didn't notice that this ad was only for stands. Imagine my surprise when they got here and there were no scanners. I went to their site to price a scanner that fit the stand. No luck. I went online with the seller and started an online chat. I tried to ask if they could sell me a scanner but all they wanted to do was issue a return. If they would have stepped up and given me some real advice on a scanner, I would have been a customer for life. I showed them another ad where it says stand but all they show is a scanner but they didn't even respond. Oh well, I tried.

Hands Free USB Automatic Scanning Barcode Bar-code Scanner Reader with Adjustable Stand w/AGPtek USB All In One card reader Review

Hands Free USB Automatic Scanning Barcode Bar-code Scanner Reader with Adjustable Stand w/AGPtek USB All In One card reader
Average Reviews:

This is a great handheld barcode scanner. Setup on a Mac is easy. Step 1: plug it into the USB slot. Step 2: use it. I'm not kidding it's that easy. If your software uses standard keyboard input, it will use this, because that's how it sends it's info - as a keyboard - and that's how the Macs sees it as a device. It also automatically senses an object it it's line of sight, lights up, and if it's a barcode, it reads it. The stand is a great asset - I highly recommend getting the unit with the stand. The only downside is the screws under the stand need some felt or something soft on them, because theey are so low, they will scratch the surface of whatever the stand is sitting on. Otherwise, I find this to be a fantastic device. Oh, by the way, it looks like a Symbol brand unit, but it's labeled "Farsun". I don't care what it's called - it's great.

Average Reviews:

The WWS 800 CCD scanner is much cheaper than the WWS 850 laser scanner - but I found that it was inferior in all ways. Unless there was perfect lighting and a perfect barcode, the 800 couldn't decode the scan. The 850 is much more expensive but can read barcodes in any light and with many flaws.

Wasp WDI4500 2D Barcode Scanner Review

Wasp WDI4500 2D Barcode Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We use 2 different 2D barcode readers at work and this one is far superior to the other (a Honeywell... I think it's 30206?).
The Honeywell has a large red illuminated area and a much smaller blue box inside that area. The blue box is the "hotspot". This Wasp reader uses a cross hair instead. Both are perfectly adequate, but my preference is the cross hair.
Both barcode readers can read even very small QR Codes (they both do several others, too, but this is what I'm using everyday) but the Wasp reads them faster.
My primary preference to the Wasp, however, comes from the fact that it is deadly accurate. The Honeywell will sometimes misread and insert funny characters. The Wasp has never done that (as far as I've noticed). I think accuracy is the most important feature of a barcode reader and the Wasp has yet to make a mistake.
The reader comes with a book of configurations that you can set--pretty much anything I could think of any many other things besides.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I highly recommend this hand scanner. It is so much better than the CS-1504. It's more powerful (scans smaller bar codes), hold hundreds, if not thousands more bar codes. I have both the CS-1504 and the OPTICON OPN-2001. I use the MiniPro scanner software to extract the bar codes and export to several formats.

Informatics WASP WWS 800 WIRELESS SCANNER ( 633808920029 ) Review

Informatics WASP WWS 800 WIRELESS SCANNER ( 633808920029 )
Average Reviews:

This is a good solid barcode reader. The big news is Bluetooth connectivity, and this thing transmits a very long distance.
There's a very important thing about this reader - this product is the Scanner and Battery ONLY. The box does not include a charger or Bluetooth receiver. Yes, you read that correctly, absolutely NO charger in this box. Right now I'm kind of scratching my head over where I'll find a charger for less than a hundred dollars (the Wasp website lists them, and they are super expensive).
December 9, 2010 Update: If you wish to buy this unit through Amazon (the pricing here is really good compared to other sites) - you will have to add one of two charging bases. They are virtually impossible to find using normal Amazon searches. This is the somewhat expensive solution: Informatics WASP WWS 800 CHARGER WITH RADIO ( 633808920043 ). Here is the solution for a charging stand only: Informatics WASP WWS 800 CHARGER NO RADIO ( 633808920036 ). By the time it is all said and done, this little Buzzer Wasp unit will cost well north of four hundred dollars. The secret handshake to find these on Amazon - you have to use the Wasp part numbers, and to get those you have to go to the Wasp website.
As it says in the product description, this is an excellent scanner for warehouses and mostly dry environments. The scanner is covered in a soft rubbery material and feels like it would take a lot of abuse. On the other hand, it won't survive a big drop on concrete. It also won't make it through high pressure washing or using in a really wet area. There are Wasp models that are IP68 (six feet to concrete drop and waterproof) rated, but they are wired. The clear plastic cover over the laser area is recessed. However, if it ever takes a direct hit, the plastic looks pretty fragile.
The scanning range is decent, around six to twelve inches. The scanner puts out a pretty wide fuzzy red laser zone for reading. I was able to read some very narrow dense barcodes even though the red zone was very fuzzy. Out of the box the positive scan buzzer is really loud and annoying.
I was able to hook this up to a Dell laptop with built in Bluetooth. It was very simple to pair. After that initial pairing, the unit connected very quickly and effortlessly to my computer even after turning off the scanner or the laptop.
There is no on/off switch on the scanner. The only way to really turn it off completely is to remove the battery in the bottom of the unit. Sadly, for a unit this rugged, the battery is a finicky little thing to remove - you have to slide a cheap little plastic flat back to release the battery. The base has exposed metal contacts for charging and a small hole for an A/C adapter (again, neither base station or A/C adapter were included with the scanner.
Putting the scanner in pairing mode is, well very strange. You have to print out a PDF from the included CD. There are several barcodes you have to read to put the scanner into keyboard mode (or something similar to that) and then pairing mode. After hitting the last barcode you then turn on Bluetooth discovery on your computer. You have to select this strange little PDA icon for the keyboard. Then, in my case, the scanner connected very quickly and magically became keyboard entry. Open up WordPad or any other program, scan any old barcode and the characters automatically appear. It seems like amazing magic.
Bluetooth range is really impressive. I was able to use this through a metal door, then a steel floor, with the computer over thirty feet away. The scanner never lost connection and scanned perfectly each time.
If your barcode application is simple, the scanner works right out of the box easily. If you require barcode scanning programming, there is a reference manual to set every parameter imaginable on this thing. The book is not very user friendly; it's more like a programming language and complicated to figure out at first. I got in a lot of trouble programming this thing to read strange barcodes; fortunately there is an all default scan to reset the thing.
Overall, this is a light weight, rugged scanner that has really good battery life and decent scanning range. The great big bonus here, Bluetooth works super well. If your computer already has Bluetooth, I see no reason to even think about the outrageously expensive adapters available from this company.

Just plug the device in your computer's USB port and the scanner is ready to scan barcodes. It is possible to configure it to mantain the scanner beam on always, so you can have the device fixed in your table and use both hands to scan your documents. Although I expected more about the distance from wich you can scan a barcode (sometimes less than 1 inch, depending on the barcode size), I think it is a good product considering its price.

This USB Plug and Play Bar Code Scanner is a breeze to setup and use. I installed this scanner in Windows Vista. Windows installed it's own drivers, no software needed. I did have to use the CD-ROM to view the tech data and set up guide to get the unit to do a carriage return after scanning a barcode. Scanning is easy and the scan distance is very good for this low priced scanner. This unit is made by Symbol, a Motorola company. It comes with a special USB cable, and stand. I highy recommend this scanner.

I bought this device as a gift for someone with a huge DVD collection. I tested it out on a bunch of items and it read them quickly and correctly every time. I used this in combination with the website DVDcorral.com and was able to enter 100 DVDs in only a few minutes.
After scanning it enters a carriage return so it always goes to the next line after writing the numbers. This scanner works best when it is very close to the UPC (touching is best).
