Mini Bluetooth 2.0 USB dongle Review

Mini Bluetooth 2.0 USB dongle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Purchased this Bluetooth adapter because the one included with my Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 is rather large. "Setup" and installation of the BlueSoleil software was painless and the adapter seems to be working great with the exception of lag that sometimes occurs with my mouse movements. The mouse did not do this with the Microsoft adapter so I believe it is either the adapter or BlueSoleil software that is causing this. Still a great device and I held one star due to the occasional lag.

~~~THE STORY, AMOUNG OTHER THINGS~~~~~
It is a nice phone, I took my 5 star review down after dealing with Tiger-direct the company that sells the phone but I can't resubmit another truer review. Anyway, this is the only format I can speak out, to let others know. The phone has nice feature's but the package for the phone doesn't come with a USB cord or a headphone set, the headphone set is a need in order for the FM radio to work. In an email that took 5 days from them to respond to my email, they said it only includes with the phone: User Manual, Rear Cover, Wall Charger, Battery. That is it.
For the headphones, to bad??? For the USB cord, I have to call 1866-603-0640...another company...for the USB cord, what about the headphones??? Oh and a sorry at the end of my email by, Maureen...customer service from tiger direct-amazon. I think they suck, My ratings at this POINT IS a "2".
So, everyone email them before you buy from them (tiger-direct) even if you have to wait 5 days at least you will know what you hard earned money pays for. After this experience with buying a cell phone from Amazon and Ebay, I will just buy from now on my cell phone provider, I seem to get ripped off by the folks who sell me parts to the phone with 'not' the complete package. Buyer BEWARE..
Another add-in, for what it is worth....
Oh, I want to add my daughter whose 16, this was a Christmas present...which I let her open early...the phone can't receive or send picture text either. Terrible seeing, that I have unlimited picture and text on the family plan, I have T-mobile, also, the 5-fav's doesn't work either, no biggie, I kind-of knew that, just making it known if you have T-mobile...Anyway--PLEASE BUYER BEWARE, about everything else, I've stated!!!!!
---TigerDirect SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, I've ordered a camera from them as well "a palaroid" the SD card doesn't work either...really sad these folks. Sadly they don't care once they get your money. I haven't returned the items because I've already return another item through someone else. It cost me $10 and change and me burning time and gas..and a headache. All I can do is post and hope to help someone else.
God Bless..two-thumbs down for TIGER-DIRECT.
Compaq iPAQ 170339-B22 Compact Flash Card Expansion Pack for 3600, 3700, 3800, 3900, 5400 series Review
I learned quickly that while the iPAQ was a great PDA, I used the onboard storage up quick. An e-book or two, a map or 3, maybe a couple of mp3, all of your "pocket outlook" files, avant go content and, heaven forbid, a short video file and you don't have any memory left at all... you can't even rub two bits together!
If you don't want to spend the coin for the PC Card expansion pack and battery time isn't a big issue to you, then this is a great solution. You can throw in any of several compact flash modules or, if you are a real space junkie you can use an IBM microdrive in it. At about a fourth of the cost of a PC Card pack you can add in that extra 128 mb. A warning tho. Given the opportunity to add in more storage, you will want to. I think everyone who can will want a Microdrive in this thing at one point or another. Sure, it drains the battery a bit more but in my opinion that is more from you using the content you carry more often and not a serious drain from the expansion pack.
Happy computing.
I purchased this item to transfer video and photos from my Nokia cell phone. I installed it on my XP desktop, using the included CD drivers for the install. No upgrades were needed and the device picked up the signal from the Nokia immediately. I uploaded my files easily and the signal was great within about a 5' range.
Note that when you are prompted for a 'key', it's any series of numbers you put in. Then simply put the same password into the other bluetooth enabled device and you'll be good to go.
Vista recognized this device immediately and had drivers for it. No need to use the driver CD to install.
I was going to pay HP extra to install a bluetooth option, but I would have overpaid. This is the cheapest, most effective option you can buy and the seller got it to me quick. Don't hesitate to buy it.
I was looking for the 100meter version but was told by someone at BB it doesn't matter because the client device (bluetooth headset) does not have the power to broadcast 100meters. So I looked around and decided on this one from Eforcity. Main reason is that I didn't want to deal with older versions of the bluetooth specs. I use this on my laptop to connect to my Moto bluetooth headset so that I can talk on skype wirelessly. Eforcity shipped quickly and packaged well. They use to sell the 100meter version but I'm told they only carry this 10meter version because its Bluetooth 2.0.
I can walk to the other end of the library and still carry converstation, about 50feet.
No need for the Android driver on the CD (good thing because the phone wouldn't let me side-load it), Just pair and go. I did need to enter 0000 pair key (into both the keyboard (0000+ENTER) and the phone). After that I was able to use it with Quick Office to make a Word doc. I haven't had a chance to check range yet, will do that tomorrow and add a comment to the post updating the info. Also the F9-F12 can be entered by a combo of keys according to another review (I don't remember which ones thou)
Edit: Ok, a little testing and my range so far is 9 feet with clear line of sight. After my replacement Multimedia Dock for my Moto Atrix arrives I will do a more comprehensive (and greater distance) test. Also to use F9-F12 you press Fn+1,2,3,4.
And the Back light is Fn+F1 and after it times out press any key and it turn back on.
Edit: Ok, 10+ feet and no problem. Got a HD Dock that works and sat on my couch and surfed the net using Firefox on my phone/computer. Sweet! It's just like the Atrix commercial ""Is it a phone or a computer?". Oh BTW no problem using the keyboard and track pad, paired as soon as I turned it on. Remember, always turn the computer on first, then the keyboard.
Informatics WASP WWS 800 CHARGER WITH RADIO ( 633808920043 )
Average Reviews:
Maybe a tiny bit better bargain than I imagined. This box includes, the charging base / USB connector / radio; a battery; the USB/Radio cable; an A/C adapter; and a bazillion world prongs for the adapter. The description seemed to say this was only a base with radio and an A/C adapter - the battery was a bonus.
Informatics sells the most confusing line of barcode readers here on Amazon. There is no single kit to purchase.
There is nothing special about this black plastic base. The big hole accepts the handle end of the barcode reader, and the slot in the rear accepts a spare battery. The barcode reader itself glows solid red when the battery is charged. There is no indicator on the base that the battery is fully charged (the LED glows red whenever the battery is inserted correctly.
There is a computer connector at the back in which you plug in the radio to USB adapter.
Canon IS22 Color Image Scanner Cartridge Review
Canon IS22 Color Image Scanner Cartridge
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
The ability to use an optional scanner cartridge with you printer is a wonderful idea. Number one, it saves a lot of deskspace. Second, it is cheaper than most flat bed scanners. And you get technical support from the same company, if needed.
You won't get high quality scans with this product though. There are noticeable vertical or horizontal lines that show up in the scanned image (depending whether you were scanning portrait or landscape) even when scanned in the highest possible resolution. Most of the lines can be retouched with good photo editing software like Photoshop 4.0 or above, but are still noticeable after printing.
In conclusion; buy this for the convenience and space saving benefits. If you are planning on getting proffesional results, use a flatbed scanner. If you're just scanning snapshots to send via email to relatives and friends, than this is probably the most economical choice for you.
Overall I am impressed with this product. The unit itself feels sturdy, the key presses are solid and responsive*. The track pad is laid out well, with the right and left buttons in a good position. The back lighting is uniform throughout the keypad, and produces more than enough light to see even the blue Function options for the keys (Mute and Pause specifically).
I would have liked to have a side scroll option on the track pad, as it is somewhat of a juggling act to hold the left mouse button down with one hand and scroll with the other (You can Function + Down which acts as Page Down).
As for the abysmal.. The provided Bluetooth dongle is garbage. As mentioned in other reviews the range is about 7 feet with DIRECT line of sight. For the HTPC in my bedroom I snaked a USB extension cable through to the corner of the desk to provide line of sight for the unit, but even with it there are occasional issues.
*I would not recommend this product to be used in a typical living room HTPC setup, RII produces a Wireless RF version Rii Mini Wireless Keyboard with Touchpad (RT-MWK01) of this product with vastly superior range.
I would absolutely recommend this product however for a bedroom/apartment/dorm setting where range is not an issue.
HP iPAQ 211 Enterprise Handheld (210 Series) Review
HP iPAQ 211 Enterprise Handheld (210 Series)
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
The HP210 / 211 / 212 / 214 could have been a truly great product. (They're all the same product: the different numbers indicate the channel and country; i.e., 210 US - Consumer, 214 - Asia, etc.) But it has a few shortcomings that, in my opinion, reduce it to an average product that should be considered carefully.
First, I am a big fan of PDAs and so-called smartphones and have been using them for years. None of them are perfect. In fact, most of them are far from perfect. In recent years the smartphone category, combining the cellular phone, the PDA and a camera, has really taken off. The standalone PDA is probably an endangered species and the HP211 could be the last of its kind. The emergence of the mini-laptop like the Asus Eee and Fujitsu U810 may, in fact, be the final nails in the coffin of the standalone PDA which I think would be a pity.
HP did a lot of things right with the HP211.
The screen is absolutely gorgeous. Photos and videos shine forth in all their glory. Glare from the screen surface has not been a problem. I have not tested it in direct sunlight, but it holds up well in bright daylight. The screen does require a fairly strong touch, but it is something you become accustomed to fairly quickly. Scrolling, however, in Internet Explorer seems to somewhat difficult. You have to apply firm pressure which the device may be interpreting as repeated taps. Something makes navigation in IE more difficult than it has to be.
For those who use the inking capability, once you get the touch done, it is a great experience. The Marvell processor is fast enough to make inking a delight. If you use an onscreen keyboard like TenGo, you'll be well impressed with how responsive the screen is and how fast your input can be.
Overall, the CPU powers the device with lots of horses to spare. And it is wonderful to have all that memory available, knowing as well that you can add humongous SDHC and CF cards as well. The idea that you can add 32GB of memory with 16GB card in each slot is mindblowing.
WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities are excellent.
The four function buttons are well placed and can be reprogrammed to meet your needs. On left side is another button that starts the recording function. The on/off switch is mounted on the front near the top right corner. While it hasn't happened to me, I am afraid it can be depressed accidentally, but the auto shutdown should render that moot even if it happens.
The D-pad is a major drawback and could be a dealbreaker for a lot of people. The designers lopped off the top of the D-pad. It is smaller than the right/left and down pads and, mounted just below the screen bezel, feels funny. It is also difficult to toggle precisely which is frustrating. As I use it more, it seems to be becoming more natural, but I consider it a dumb design move. I would strongly suggest that prospective owners either try it in a store or buy from a vendor with an excellent return policy.
The other major flaw - and this could be a deal-killer for a lot of people is the speaker arrangement. There are two speakers, but they do not work together at the same time. The front one is used only, as far as I know, with Skype. It has just barely adequate volume in a quiet room. If there's any kind of noise, forget it. By the way, the HP211 works very well with Skype.
The rear speaker is just plain horrible. It is inaudible even in a quiet room. It is unusable for playing back voice recordings and trying to use it for music or audio tracks on movies is unthinkable. You can also whistle goodbye to using it for voice prompts for GPS. In a unit this expensive, this design flaw is inexcusable. Making matters worse is that the headphone jack - which is, thankfully, a standard 3.5mm - is located on the bottom of the unit. I haven't tried it with Bluetooth headphones. one of the big pluses of a standalone PDA like this to me is the recording capability for quick notes. But if I can't hear them playing back without headphones, what good is it? Another reason for a standalone with Bluetooth is GPS. Obviously, you want GPS with voice prompts. But if you can't hear the voice prompts, what good is it?
Considering HP's legendary engineering, I am surprised these flaws made it into the final product, but they did and I think they greatly reduce the appeal of the product.
The unit is pretty big, which I appreciate because I want an ample writing surface and I have big hands. That's the good news. The bad news is that the surfaces are all slippery plastic. If you intend to use this unit without a case, I suspect it will become a casualty within a matter of days. Overall, the construction feels a little on the cheap side. Not awful, but it doesn't feel very robust either.
My primary reason for wanting a standalone PDA is to have a way (other than pen and paper) to take notes throughout the day. The HP211 fills this role well. I primarily use PhatNotes and TenGo. The HP211 screen provides an excellent inking experience with no vectoring problems. The stock Windows Mobile Notes and other applications and the letter recognizer also work well. It's a joy to have a ton of memory with the ability to expand to previously unheard of dimensions. The screen is a marvelous platform for viewing photos or videos. (The CPU, by the way, doesn't have quite enough ooomph to play video back smoothly. Using TCMP, I had lots of dropped frames.)
If I were ranking the device very narrowly, I would give it 5 stars without hesitation and then take 1 star away for the price, which I think is too high. Thus a net 4 stars. Because of the D-pad design and, in particular, the utterly useless audio, I can give it only 3 stars. Considering the high price in conjunction with these defects and I have to strongly urge that anyone considering this device consider it very, very carefully. One of the reasons I prefer Windows Mobile devices is the wide array of software available for them. The main reason for buying the HP211, on my part, was the large screen, which is admittedly much easier to work with than the one on my smartphone.
But at $400+ for the HP, there are alternatives and I suggest that they be considered. The Nokia N800 is less than half the price and provides WiFi, web browsing and email. The screen is great, though converting video for the N8*0 is dicey. The N800 offers SDHC expansion capability. The N810 adds a sliding keyboard. And both have a rudimentary camera which the HP211 should have, but doesn't. The big drawback to the N8*0 devices? They're Linux and apps are still relatively scarce.
On the whole, I think the HP211 is well suited for a notetaking function and moderately well suited for web browsing when Opera is installed. It is an adequate video platform. But the built-in speakers simply stink. The headphone jack is inconveniently placed and the D-pad is something of a design disaster.
The big problem is that there just aren't that many standalone PDAs out there running Windows Mobile 6 with a ton of memory and a great 4" screen. At half the price, I'd live with the problems. At $400+, though, I'm still wondering about it. My smartphone does everything the HP211 does: it's just smaller and more difficult to work on. Is the convenience worth $400+? I'm not sure yet, but am tilting toward saying "no".
Jerry
Canon PIXMA iP100 Mobile Photo Printer Review
Canon PIXMA iP100 Mobile Photo Printer
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
We bought this little gem to take to Europe. First impressions are very favorable. It's small, reliable, and prints beautifully. At just over four pounds, it's perfect for travel.
The little Bluetooth adaptor also works very well. Reading the manual (!), I discovered it is possible to mount the adapter permanently inside the printer so that it's not exposed and doesn't need attachment every time it is used. This is a simple procedure, and enhances the usefulness of the Bluetooth capability that is all but de rigueur when traveling. The installation / setup information is also in the electronic manual that comes on the CD.
But as good as the printer is, it does not come with (nor does Canon offer) a case of any kind. I found the perfect solution - from Case-Mate: go to http://www.case-[...] and buy the 'Glovez 15"' sleeve (like a large envelope with a velcro closure / flap). It comes in an assortment of colors and is a skin-tight (but very workable) fit in the 'length' direction. When inserted, the printer doesn't take up every bit of the case in the 'width' direction, meaning there is just enough room to also accommodate the cord and AC brick. Throw these in, close the flap, and you're always ready to roll.
Best part: this 'Glovez' sleeve is only $9.99 + $3.99 S/H, and gets to you in a few days. It's not bulky - just what one wants to protect the printer but not take up room. (As an aside, the Case-Mate Glovez 13" [for the MacBook 13" and Air] fits the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 perfectly).
March 8, 2011: Came back (for the first time) to look over some of my reviews, and thought I would update this one. We took the printer to Europe for a month in the summer of 2008 (and, as noted by one of the commenters, it does indeed have a built-in usable voltage range of 100 - 240V, 50 - 60 Hz, so one needs only an adapter for local outlets, and not a transformer of any kind). It performed flawlessly then, and continues to do so today.
We take it everywhere. It goes in the bag wherever we go on vacation, or on business, and has never missed a beat. It sets up in an instant as soon as you get to your hotel room - so easy to use. As stated before, I highly recommend the internally-mounting bluetooth adapter; it's never in the way, impossible to lose, and reliable. OK: Canon gets a small demerit for not building it in in the first place, but... With today's wireless-built-in portable PCs and other devices, it's a snap to hook up to the Internet within moments of arriving at your hotel, then send maps, proposals, anything else, etc. to the printer with no cables whatever. Especially good when both of us have our laptops out at a hotel room: we can both send jobs to the printer across the room without getting in each other's way. It's quick, reliable, durable, with various 'quality levels' available - and I highly recommend it for mobile use.
I know Canon also makes a battery that 'bolts-on' to the back of this printer. For my application, the additional $100 wasn't worth the extra bulk - to achieve a freedom from the electric grid that I didn't need. But if you conduct business in your pickup, or out in the field, it would certainly make sense: put the printer on the passenger seat and produce a customer invoice, etc. on the spot.
I seldom wax so enthusiastic over a product, and have been known to be excoriatingly critical of poor designs / execution. But Canon hit the nail dead center with this product: if you're in the market for a genuinely useful, rugged, portable printer - get it. You will not regret the decision.
Canon BU-30 Bluetooth Adapter for PIXMA MX850 Review
Canon BU-30 Bluetooth Adapter for PIXMA MX850
Average Reviews:
I am very pleased with the bluetooth adapter BU-30 for my Canon MX850 All-in-One printer. It prints quickly and there doesn't seem to be any delay at all compared to having the printer plugged into my laptop. The only drawback,which is that of technology itself, is that you can only use the print function of the all-in-one. If you want to scan anything, it has to be plugged directly into the pc, which to me is fine since you have to be next to the scanner anyways to place the scanned item onto the scanner.
I originally purchased the bluetooth adapter because my office was my kitchen table while my two children, 4 years and 2 years old, ran the household. Whenever I needed to print anything I had to take my laptop to the printer to print, which was very inconvenient. I bought the adapter and now I can be anywhere in my house and print without any delay. I have since reclaimed my office space but still use the bluetooth adapter. It works well with my husbands laptop also and has defenitely made it easier to share workspace with him if he has to be on his pc too. Before the adapter, I would have to move my computer so that he could attach to the printer. Now, he can stay sitting at his own desk without bothering my work.
Two thumbs up for me!!
Shipped here in good time. Plugged it into OBD II connection of car. Came up on phone bluetooth as CHX. Tried to pair with pin that came with device (1234). Got an error of incorrect pin. Tried every basic pin i could think of and still no work. Sent a bad feedback to seller and got a quick response that the correct is 6789. Pin worked and was able to pair with phone. Everything after that seems to work as advertised. Deleted seller negative feedback. Not a perfect experience but still not bad.
