Epson Stylus R320 Photo Inkjet Printer Review

Epson Stylus R320 Photo Inkjet Printer
Average Reviews:

I bought this printer based on reviews and some blind faith.
My wife wanted a printer to print occasional text and some photos. I was under the assumtion that you either want to print photos period or text period and if you want to print text then you're better off with a laser printer and if you want to print photos then get a good dedicated photo printer.
My wifes camera is a small digital. She's been printing pictures from her mothers printer which are painfully pixelated. I didn't want to get something that poor, I insisted on something somewhat better. I thought I'd have to spend $500+ which you can, but she insisted she didn't want something that expensive for scrapbooking. I saw this for $200 and bit my lip. The printers I use at work cost thousands. I thought this would be painfully slow, cheap, marginal quality.
This printer prints amazingly well. It's considered on the high end for a photo printing ink jet. The 8 colors would be better but I've found the quality is as good as a 1-hour lab. That's a lot or a little depending on your expectations. But for $200 I think it's a very good deal.
If you want to print simple text, for reference and not graphics it prints pretty well and faster than I thought.
It seems substantial and well constructed. It has features I didn't realize they put into $200 printers.
This model, the 320 has a little flip up screen for viewing your images if you want to print directly from a memor card. the 300 doesn't and this was $20 more. My wife likes that option. I prefer retouching and printing from the computer.
I knew that I wanted separate ink cartridges for each color. This printer uses 6 colors and 6 separate ink cartridges. Some printer using 6 colors use only 2 cartidges with 3 colors each. The trouble with that is if you run out of 1 color and the others are half full, you'd be wasting money having to replace 3 colors when there's still ink left in the others.
You can even print wireless if your printer supports Bluetooth technology. $69 will get you the adapter for the printer.
If you're planning to print postscript files from a postscript drawing program then you need a postscript compatible laser printer or perhaps you could use this type of printer with a postscript emulation software. I haven't looked into that yet. Don't even ask anyone at Circuit City or similar retail outlets since they don't know what "postscript" means.
Overall I am very very happy with this printer.

Brother MFC-210C Color Inkjet Multifunction Printer Review

Brother MFC-210C Color Inkjet Multifunction Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this today and I'm returning it tomorrow. The printer part is fine, but I do a lot of scanning and I am dumbfounded by what I discovered with this aspect of the machine. First off, when scanning you don't get a preview, you have no option of controlling the size of the scan, or the HSL or any other color/brightness control, nor can you control the dpi. You push the scan button and it scans the whole bed. If your object is smaller than the bed size, too bad. If you want something at 72 dpi (which is all any monitor can "see" so all you use for the web), too bad. If the colors aren't good, too bad. If there's a glare off of something you're scanning, too bad. No options are available. The files end up being large as they're the size of the bed and at 300dpi (the default).
When I first tried scanning and didn't get a preview window or any controls, I picked up the manual to figure out what was going wrong. Guess what? no mention of scanning in the 200 page book. When I looked "scanning" up in the index, it told me to look on the cd. When I looked on the cd, nothing. I went to Brother's site and downloaded a manual from there--only to read that you don't get any options on any part of scanning!

If you work at home or in a small office environment, the cost in both money and space of buying single-use machines can be prohibitively expensive. The MFC-210C from Brother delivers printing, copying, scanning, and faxing capabilities, allowing you to free up office space and combine all your important office tasks into one effective machine. With its small 3-picoliter droplet size, the MFC-210C delivers print resolutions of up to 6,000 x 1,200 dpi and print speeds of up to 20 ppm for black and up to 15 ppm for color. The easy-to-use, 100-page, front-loading paper tray accommodates sizes up to 8.5 by 14.0 inches, while a 25-sheet output paper tray accommodates most print jobs easily.
The fax machine is capable of both black and color faxing, and has transmission speeds of up to 6 seconds per page. Twenty auto-dial locations are provided to help you keep track of your most important numbers, and a 70-location broadcasting feature allows you to send one fax to multiple locations. A redial function will automatically attempt to reach the dialed number until you receive an answer, while a 25-page internal memory means that you won't miss important faxes, even when you run out of paper.
The built-in copier is capable of both black and color copying, with copy speeds of up to 17 cpm for black and up to 11 cpm for color. You can reduce or enlarge your copies anywhere from 25% to 400%, while a multi-copy function lets you make up to 99 copies from a single original. The scanner has a 36-bit color depth and 256 levels of grayscale, resulting in crisp colors and subtle grays; and the 600 x 2,400 optical scan resolution provides accurate, true-to-life scans. Additionally, one-touch scan-to-e-mail, scan-to-image, scan-to-OCR, and scan-to-file buttons automate these frequently used scanner functions.
If you are a digital photo enthusiast, you'll be glad to hear that the MFC-210C has a photo capture center that allows you to create photo-quality prints directly from a wide variety of media cards, with or without your PC. Several helpful software tools, including ScanSoft PaperPort, ScanSoft OmniPage OCR Software, and Presto! PageManager Software for Mac, help you get the most out of your prints and scans. The unit connects to your computer via its USB port, while an optional wireless print server can be purchased to use the MFC-210C as a wireless print device. Energy Star compliant, the unit consumes only 20 watts during normal operation and about 3 watts during sleep mode. Compatible with PC and Mac operating systems, the MFC-210C also comes backed with a one-year limited warranty.
What's in the Box MFC210c multifunction, paper tray, ink cartridges (black, cyan, magenta, yellow), CD-ROM with PC fax/drivers and bundled software (ScanSoft PaperPort, ScanSoft OmniPage OCR Software, and Presto! PageManager for Mac), telephone line cord, instructions; USB cable not included

HP PSC 1315 All-in-One Printer Review

HP PSC 1315 All-in-One Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
short story - great unit for the price. Great printing and scanning and acceptable copying.
long story - I originally bought this unit on the spur of the moment due to a great deal. It's an HP so I thought it would be great based upon past experience. I got back home, read the other reviewers, and second-guessed my decision. I would have taken it back, unopen, but my college-bound daughter was very excited about the scanning and copying. I'm a long term IT Professional so I decided to give it a try, very hesitantly, on her brand new PC.
Setup was not difficult at all. Clear instructions were included although it clearly says NOT to connect to your computer until you have the software fully loaded. Not sure what happens if you don't read! I did think the sofware installation took quite a while on a brand new, high-end PC, but it didn't give me any issues.
Immediately, my daugher began copying, scanning, editing, and printing. The printing is great quality and would say the same for the scanning. The included sofware allowed her immediately to do editing. Again, she quickly made her favorite picture the background on her PC. I did notice that the cover to the copier has a little give, but I DID only pay $100 for it. Also, it cuts off a small portion of copies, but in my test, it was part of the very bottom URL line of an internet prinout . . . hardly a tragedy. I won't be using this for professional quality copies anyway. The copies were a remarkable likeness of exactly what I copied . . . no graying out occurred.
So, we are quite happy so far. HP may have corrected it's original issues so keep this in mind. I am wondering how long the print cartriges will last. They are somewhat smaller than my HP Photo printer, but not a large concern at this point. I have not yet priced the replacements.
Short advice is this is a good all-around-device for the price.

HP DESK JET F2210 PRINTER, SCANNER, AND COPIER ALL IN ONE Review

HP DESK JET F2210 PRINTER, SCANNER, AND COPIER ALL IN ONE
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this item at another retailer (shop around for pricing as it varies GREATLY!); I was so pleasantly surprised by the quality -- all around! The printing is great, copying is fast and good quality (how rare is it to be able to do color copying?) and the scanner is great! It includes software for text-recognition that is of better reliability and quality than I've seen in a long time. It does go through the standard ink cartridges very quickly if you are always printing at the higher quality - I often use the "quick draft" mode and the quality is fine for everyday use. The good news about the cartridges is that they are a popular "style" so usually easy to find, and they are much less expensive than my old Lexmark ink!

Canon MF6590 Copier/Scanner/Printer/Fax DUPLEX/NETWORK w/NEW 106 Toner Review

Canon MF6590 Copier/Scanner/Printer/Fax DUPLEX/NETWORK w/NEW 106 Toner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a small office and work from home as a data analyst. My job revolves around printing and scanning a vast amount of data. The Canon 6590 is very easy to install and configure. The unit is very fast printing (24ppm b&w) and scanning (20ppm??). It has a very quick warmup time and fits nicely next to my two monitors and keyboards. The unit comes with a very reliable 128 MB which allows me to add up many different jobs at once, and the printer is able to handle them all very well and without crashing, which is an issue to many other laser printers with lower memory. The paper handling is convenient because it provides with a large capacity. The autofeeding mechanisms are also well polished and I never experienced a paper jam perse, only false alarm paper jams. The only issue with this printer is that it does not provide color printing for its price range.

This machine is an ink guzzler. I can't print out my term papers without having to go through at least two cartridges. Unless you only expect to use it for very light use (print out the occasional e-mail, directions), I'd say look for something else, unless you want to keep a ton of cartridges in stock all the time.
