HP Photosmart C4580 Q8401AR Inkjet Printer Review

DON"T BUY A WIRELESS PRINTER FROM HP.I bought a Photosmart C4580 printer last summer and the wireless "radio" has a known software glitch that HP technical services has been unable to fix for six months now. I have tried repeatedly to download the "patch" that I found on HP's website but it still does not work. The patch downloads okay but the problem doesn't change. They have a one year warranty on printers but that is only good for 21 days as a technical services person recently told me. I have been told many times that a "supervisor" will call then when they call a week or more later they say they are going to have to "escalate" the call and I have to talk to a supervisor. A week later someone calls and says sorry--"I can't help you, you have to talk to my supervisor, he'll call you". This has been going on for weeks now. They don't even sell this printer anymore which is pretty revealing but I wouldn't trust any wireless printer from this company at this point. My HP notebook can't manage to communicate wirelessly with my HP printer and HP technical services can't figure it out. How does this company get awards for customer service? I think their customer service is horrible. I have been getting the run around for almost six months now.

I've never had more problems with a product than I've had with the HP Photosmart C4780 wireless All-in-One printer. From the three hours we spent attempting to install and wirelessly connect it to two computers, to the half dozen times over the past three weeks when it's simply chosen not to print when asked, this product has been nothing but an incredible frustration and waste of money. Even HP support couldn't solve the problem. I've owned it no more than three weeks and have spent nearly as many hours on the phone with support. Every time we hit "print" we hope it's in the mood to do so, but it rarely works out. Don't waste your money.

We bought this after a big trip to the UK and Europe to print out my digital pics for my still analog mother. Needless to say, she wants a digital camera very badly for Christmas now.
Its so easy to just pull your memory card from your camera, plug it into the printer and be able to zoom, crop and do basic editing (color balance, etc) right on the printer. We aren't even going to hook it up to a computer, becuase if you're just using it for pictures theres almost no need.
I looked at the 8450 with networking and 8 print nozzles, but didn't think it was worth $80 more. Like I said, we arent even hooking it to a printer, let alone our network, and frankly I do not know how noticeable 2 more print nozzles are going to be when the pictures look this spectacular in the first place.
Print speed is surprisingly fast, as I've been seeing 30seconds for a borderless 4x6.
I definitely recommend it

HP PhotoSmart C4480 All-in-One Printer (Q8388A) Review

HP PhotoSmart C4480 All-in-One Printer (Q8388A)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just bought this, so if you are looking for long-term performance this isn't the review for you. But so far I like what I have seen.
There were problems with the previous model (4280?), including bad text printing performance, so I wanted to stay away from that model. I saw this one and couldn't find any reviews, so I went ahead and bought it, hoping it would be better. As far as I can tell, the text printing (along with photo and normal graphics) is certainly good enough. It is a bit slow, but for most people (myself included) who don't need to print reams of paper every hour, it isn't that big of a deal.
Scanning/copying is a little bit slow as well, but again not a big deal to me. It will just be nice to have a capable copier in the house.
I haven't used some of the functionality, such as the card reader, but printing, scanning and (PC-less) copying seem to work great.
Installation is easy (as long as you don't have Windows 2000 like the first dolt, er, person reviewing this printer), though it takes longer than I would have suspected, as it is loading up your computer with oodles of junk-ware that will most likely never be run. I'll most likely go back later and clean those things out the best I can. But that's what I get for being lazy and telling it to install everything.
Setup couldn't be more straightforward. I've never owned an all-in-one before, so I was a bit surprised that after it printed the print-head alignment page, instead of it asking me to look and see how lined up it was, it told me to put the page into the scanner, and it aligned itself. Brilliant.
This thing looks great, is remarkably compact and feels sturdy. Make sure you have a USB cable when you buy it, as it is not included.

I looked for a replacement for my Canon MultiPass F50 and needed a Mac-compatible printer that has Ethernet connectivity, an auto-document feeder, and could print 4x6 photos. It came down to this versus the Canon MP830. I chose the HP since the Canon lacked an Ethernet interface.
PRO's:
First, the unit is very attractive and matches the style of my Mac Mini. Second, it has both an Ethernet and WiFi built in, which is great for sharing it amongst all the computers in our house, both Mac and PC. Third, it has a built in slot to hold 4x6 photoprints, which it prints directly from a camera or PC or memory card. Fourth, it has ADF, which is great when you have 10+ pages to fax and hate to feed them in one by one. Fifth, print quality looks great, nearly the same as the Canon 830. Sixth, I got it super cheap at Costco for $239 (they were running a rebate). Seventh, the unit is smaller than most multi-function printers, Eighth, it has a little color LCD for viewing prints off a memory card.
Cons:
It cannot scan 35mm slides (which the Canon is able to). Also, unlikely that it scans an 8.5x14 document. The print cartridges do not look like they can be manually refilled with ink kits (not that this is always a good idea). The included Mac software was wrong (it was for a 7100 series), so make sure you visit the HP site and download the right software, then it installs easy. Once I had the right software, it took me no time to configure it on a network with 2 Mac Mini's. Lastly, print cartridges are not exactly a bargain: the color ones are $10 ea (you need 5) and the black ink ones are $18 ea. The cartridges look really small, so it will be interesting to see how much print output I get. Buy refills at costco, where they are $56 for a complete set, and $46 for 3 black cartridges.
I'll play with it more, but so far, I am impressed it with the speed and quality, and the cost versus features is simply unbeatable. Especially if you are a Mac user, finding a Ethernet and wifi enabled multi-function printer with ADF is pretty much impossible at this price.

HP Photosmart C4180 All in One Printer, Scanner, and Copier Review

HP Photosmart C4180 All in One Printer, Scanner, and Copier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am an admitted HP loyalist. I did purchase an Epson to see what the fuss was about. Ended up donating it to Salvation Army less than a year. This C4180 replaced it. I like the fact that only two cartridges are needed. I never purchase the photo version toner. Plain color works just fine.
Puzzled by some of the negative reviews. I hooked mine up to a Mac G5 and also loaded the software. Print jobs look fine. Photos are terrific. Copies for routine household chores (report cards/articles)are very clear. But the real pleasure is the scanner.
I had a 3-yr old flatbed scanner (also HP) that just wasn't giving me the clarity I needed. My goal was to convert all those baby pictures to digital files. This tool really fits the bill.
I finally figured out that it's best to run the scanner from the computer, not the on-board console commands. It also helps to permanently add the HP Scan Pro software to the row of programs that appear along the bottom of the screen.
I've gone through about 600 photos. Although it can scan 4 photos at once(4x6), I found that placing 3 is better. Why? With more space between the photos, the scanner detects 3 distinct objects. That means you don't have to go in later to crop and "file-save as" a file with 4 different photos. What's even better is that each of the 3 photos gets saved with it's own file name. Say I call the first file as "Disney". The 2nd and 3rd file would get named "Disney 01" and "Disney 02".
There are some quirks in the software. When launching it, it tends to default to TIFF files which can take lots of memory. Be cognizant of this and remember to adjust your settings before your first scan of a session.
Overall I am thrilled with the output. And feel better knowing my favorite photos now have a high-quality digital back up. Don't know why it works so well for me but not others. Could be that I am on a MAC. Why not give it 5 stars? Because it's my way of sending a message to all printer manufacturers who insist on bleeding us dry with annoyingly small/over priced cartridges. Epson was worst, HP is a little better.

I purchased this printer a year ago and have regretted it ever since. I got about 35 pages out of the first set of cartridges. I spent 2 hours on the phone with customer service running through a bunch of alignment, cartridge head cleaning, etc. procedures. Their final recommendation was that I print things on "fast draft" mode. The bottom line is that this thing goes through ink at an unbelievable rate. Even in fast draft mode I can only print about 50 pages. What a completely worthless printer. At $35 per set of replacement cartridges that's about 70 cents a page. If I could give it zero stars, I would.

HP Photosmart C4680 All-in-one Printer (Q8418A#ABA) Review

HP Photosmart C4680 All-in-one Printer (Q8418A#ABA)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The first thing I learned when I put the HP 4680 on line was that the old usb cable I had from my evidently crippled HP 1210 had failed. I didn't even know that usb cables could do that, but the 4680 couldn't 'see' the connection using the old cable. When I purchased and attached the new cable, the 4680 then went righ along very well.
Incidently, my curiosity was eating me alive as to whether, all this time, the cable could be the problem with my old HP 1210. Turns out, it was, and the old printer was once again functioning. With it now resurrected, I began to question whether I really needed the new 4680. Still, it was pretty nice with the little LCD screen & all - so I put it on line.
Two days later my wife was attempting to scan a page, not using the computer, and it would not, saying, instead, try scanning from the computer. So - went to the HP Solutions Center program, and again, it would not, and gave some sort of 'disconnect' error code.
Yesterday I spent over two hours with HP tech support and really they were very polite, worked hard, reinstalled the software, installed other software, etc., and still could not get it to scan as indicated in the manual. The tech guy DID discover, however, that it would scan using Microsoft Windows Gallery, under the heading of 'Insert' 'Scan'. So we then knew that the scanner really works, just not using the software from HP, at least so far.
So - now I am about convinced to return the 4680 and shop for some other sort of printer, or just keep going with my old one. I don't know whether anyone else has had this problem, nor, of course, whether a solution has been found. I just want it to work as indicated.

HP Photosmart 3210 All-in-One Printer, Copier, and Scanner Review

HP Photosmart 3210 All-in-One Printer, Copier, and Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
To start off, let me say that I am traditionally not a fan of HP's products. I did, however, view this all-in-one as having some nicer features than some others and took a chance.
I feel that generally HP does well with hardware products and or designs but struggles with their software integration with their products. I feel this is the case here as well. I have had my 3210 for about 2 weeks and here are my experiences.
Pros:
i) Scanning resolution and overall quality is quite good.
ii) Printing quality is also good. I wasn't planning on doing a ton of printing but based on experiences I will probably do more than anticipated because of the good results.
iii) Scanning and printing are both pretty quick. Marketed as the fastest picture printer all-in-one on the market... can't compare with others but I suspect they are correct here.
iv) I was happy to find in my research that replacement ink cartridges are NOT terribly expensive and they are easy to replace and know if they are running low.
Cons:
i) Paper magazine is small so it doesn't hold a lot -- minor.
ii) Software install was more of a pain than I was expecting. Installation on WinXP SP1 was generally OK but on WinXP SP2 it was a struggle. Not HP's fault, certainly, but they weren't able to make the installation easier to prevent some of these isssues or frustrations. I hope they have a lot of tech support people available as this product sells.
iii) Network configuration was not as automated or straight forward as they could have been.
iv) Software interface isn't as easy and fluid as it could be. I think that those who purchase this product that don't have some comfort with computers will be on the phone with HP often.
Overall, I am pleased with the purchase thus far but still have some configuration to work through. In HP's defense, I haven't called or emailed their tech support -- but I shouldn't have to and my schedule makes this tough. Again, I feel the hardware implementation is quite good but their installation software and interface is lacking.

I just bought this 1 month ago, and there are clearly more perks than I am currently taking advantage of. Here are the ones I'm already loving. It's a color printer that allows pure black and white printing. (My old ones only did grayscale wasting lots of colored ink. I can print 6 slides per page, and all printing can be double sided, even multiple pages per side! Amazing paper saving options. Also, a very helpful automatic on-screen error guide. This is just the beginning of what this printer has to offer. To me, it is worth much more than its price!
