Pros:
Unit and ink cartridges are reasonably priced
Easy to learn and simple to use
Fantastic prints
Cons:
Santa should have brought me this for christmas (No cons!)
Comments:
The Canon Pixma MP270 Inkjet printer is one of the best in its class. The quality of prints are superb and the cost of both the package and the ink cartridges are exceptional. I use it daily for college assignments, work projects, pictures and photocopies. I was tempted to buy the lower version (MP250) locally, but after reading the reviews online at Amazon (for the MP250) I decided to place the order for this model and I haven't had reason to regret this decision yet. It cost me a bit more, but in the end the purchase was well worth both the cost and wait.

Cobra XRS-9730 12-Band Radar/Laser Detector Review

Cobra XRS-9730 12-Band Radar/Laser Detector
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've found the Cobra brand to be the best "reasonably" priced detectors out there. This one consistantly picks up our friends in uniform about 1/2 to a mile away. Not too many false signals. If you want LASR warning.... forget it. It's always too late no matter what you buy.

Whether you commute to work or school on the freeway, drive for a living, or just like to go on an occasional recreational trip, the Cobra XRS-9730 Radar/Laser Detector is an invaluable addition to your motor vehicle. Designed for the convenience of 24-hour use, the XRS-9730 has a bright, easy-to-read DigiView data display that can be dimmed for nighttime driving. Measuring 4.88 x 3.01 x 1.44 inches and weighing just 6.74 ounces, the XRS-9730 can be set just about anywhere within easy view when you're driving, and then stored in your glove compartment when you're parked. The XRS-9730 detects six different radar signals, including the Ku wavelength band that is widely used in Europe and that has been recently approved for use in the United States. In addition, the XRS-9730 is completely invisible to the VG-2 and Spectre radar detector detectors while it alerts you if either the VG-2 or the Spectre is in use in your area. The XRS-9730 is also sensitive to four different laser signals, and with its LaserEye feature giving you a 360-degree detection range, you'll always be able to tell if you're driving through a surveillance area. And perhaps most importantly, for your own safety and the safety of other drivers sharing the road with you, the XRS-9730 detects two emergency alert systems to give you advance warning of road hazards, keeping you prepared when emergency vehicles are nearby. In addition to detecting the Safety alert system, the XRS-9730, like most of Cobra's Radar/Laser detectors, offers Cobra's exclusive feature of detecting the presence of the Strobe alert system, which emergency crews use to control traffic signals.Other features include a voice alert, a power-saving automatic shutdown when you turn your ignition off, and an easy-to-program menu. So get the Cobra XRS-9730 Radar/Laser Detector for your car or truck, and you'll be prepared for just about anything when you're behind the wheel.Note: Radar detectors can be used without restriction in well over 40 states, but restrictions apply in a few states. Please check with your state department of motor vehicles or highway patrol if you have questions about whether there are restrictions in your area. What's in the Box XRS 9730 radar/laser detector, windshield bracket, coiled power cord, hook and loop fasteners, and owner's manual.

Opteka HD² Slide Copier for Canon PowerShot S5 IS, S3 IS, and S2 IS Review

Opteka HD² Slide Copier for Canon PowerShot S5 IS, S3 IS, and S2 IS
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just finished converting 100 slides to digital format using this slide scanner and it works great. Here are the details...
I have a Canon S3 IS camera. This product includes all the necessary connection items for use with the camera including a special connecting ring for the S3 camera body and a 52mm to 58mm conversion ring for the slide scanner assembly. Bottom line, this kit has all the necessary hardware and you do not need any of the Canon lens adapters to use this.
The unit is well made physically - the lens tube is metal and the slide holder is plastic. It is easy to insert and position the slide.
So how were the results? The quality of the results exceeded my expectations. I am not a professional photographer but to my untrained eyes the output, both on my 19" computer screen and printed via my inkjet at 6x4 looked very, very good. Was it absolutely perfect? No. However, all of the imperfections that I observed were due to the original slide. On about 15% of the slides there were a few (2-3) dust specs. On about 20% there was a slight color tint. The dust and color was part of my original slides, your situation will vary. These imperfections were fixable in Photoshop Elements.
The process I used was to first sit down and use this device to photo the 100 slides and then use Photoshop Elements to edit them. It took about 1 minute per slide to photo and about 3 minutes per slide to edit - so figure about 4 minutes total per slide when you do them in batches. One very useful feature of the S3 (and most Canon cameras) is that you can connect the camera to your computer and use your computer to control the camera. The big advantage is that I was previewing the photo on the large computer screen rather than the small camera LCD - this was a huge plus. I am not a very sophisticated Photoshop Elements users, but here is the process that I went through: 1) rotate the picture to level the horizon [don't know why so many of my slides were shot crooked, but probably 20% needed this], 2) crop to a 6x4 aspect ratio (when you photo the slide you will have black bands on the top and bottom that you want to get rid of because the slide aspect ratio is not the same as the digital camera's photo aspect ratio], 3) remove any dust or scratches [maybe 10%, but I was not a perfectionist], 4) adjust the color to eliminate color tint when necessary, maybe 10% of my slides, 5) adjust the levels to brighten colors and contrast, 50% of my slides.
The process is easier than the above paragraph makes it sound. I looked at slide scanning services on the internet and they wanted 50 cents to a dollar. Dedicated slide scanners were $500+. I have no reference to compare the end result, but I am very happy with this solution.

I found the HD Pro Slide Copier does produce excellent copies. It does require some photographic knowlege as there is no instruction booklet packed with the item.
The main thing is to use an aparture of f16 or f22 on the camera in the duplicating process. This gave me the sharpest duplicated image. When my D40x was on AutoFocus, the resulting image was not as good as it could be. Also, when the duplicated image was on the SD card in the D40x, it was tilted, and had the image of the cardboard frame there also. The usuable slide image was only 50 % of the available image space of the SD card. I used Picasa to crop and straighten the duplicated image. (Other programs should work just as well.) This gave me my final photographic image. I am very pleased with the resulting image and recommend the HD Pro Slide Duplicator. I am an amature photographer who has taken mostly 35mm slides/photos since the 1950's, and have done darkroom work. Rating: Excellent image but really needs an instruction book.

Canon i9100 Photo Printer Review

Canon i9100 Photo Printer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked up this printer to print 11x17 and the occasional 13x19 photo. I've owned a Canon back in 1997, but have been using Epson printers since. Now I'm switching back to Canon for good. This printer is flat out amazing. The print quality is fantastic, as is the design and quality feel of the actual product.
The materials and colors are nice, and not cheap and loud like Epson printers. My other Epson is a photo 820 which was only [$$] but a fortune for ink, and Epson never did finish the drivers for Mac OSX. It was advertised that it could do borderless printing, but it would only do it in OS9 which nobody uses anymore. The Canon prints borderless 13x19 prints in OSX and they're brilliant. Epson's are nice printers, and I think they had the edge for a few years but Canon has clearly caught up. I'm surprised how fast and quiet this printer is, but I guess that's what you get for [$$]. It's worth it though.
I am a graphic designer with a meticulous eye for detail -- trust me, this is a good product.

Note: The Canon i9100 is no longer being manufactured. You may want to consider purchasing the newer Canon i9900 photo printer instead.

Each nozzle delivers ultra-small 4 picoliter droplets to provide exceptionally detailed prints rivaling those of a professional photo lab. HP Photosmart 8250 Printer (Q3470A#ABA) Review

HP Photosmart 8250 Printer (Q3470A#ABA)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an excellent printer for the serious photographer. The images are clear, sharp, and crisp, and professional in every way, at least to my amateur eye. I am a picky amateur photographer, and I bought this printer so that I could easily print 8x10, 5x7, and 4x6 photos from my several digital cameras. This printer does the job. This is a beautifully engineered and solid piece of equipment.
Some technical issues. Beware, when the ink first prints, it smears easily, so let it dry for a few minutes--it dries quickly enough. I am happy to say that the photo download from the card reader slot (I measured it on the CF card reader--I haven't tried it for my SD cards yet) is lightning fast, as compared to my older HP printers, I guess that is the USB 2.0 that this device features. This is a welcome improvement--earlier HP printers lagged behind even cheap card readers in speed. No more.
So far my print feeds have been flawless and jam-free. You can effortlessly switch between 4x6 and 8x10 prints, and the feeds are fine. (Haven't tried 5x7s yet, but I expect no problems.) When you first take the printer out of the box it will prompt you to put paper in the printer and let it test the ink cartridges. Beware--you need to install them first. This only takes a second, and these are the most foolproof printer cartridges I have ever seen, but the printer does not tell you that the cartridges are not yet installed, at least not until you try to run the diagnostic. No big deal; I installed them, and the printer calibrated itself perfectly!
The printer installed perfectly and effortlessly the very first time. Simply insert the supplied CD and follow the instructions. Remember not to insert the (not supplied!) USB2 cable into the computer until the software prompts you to do so.
It appears to me that some of the other reviewers (here on Amazon) of this printer made the same initial mistake I made. Specifically, here is the deal: this printer can detect what kind of paper you are feeding it (if it is HP paper anyway)--it detects it from a code on the back of the paper and it adjusts the ink application accordingly. Further, this printer is very precise as to how it applies ink to a given paper type. So if you try to manually tell it what kind of paper you are using, and if you guess wrong, you will get lousy pictures with the ink incorrectly applied. Once I figured out the rather amazing fact that this printer KNOWS what kind of paper it is printing on, I started getting wonderful pictures. (It literally never occurred to me that it could do this--I had to, you guessed it, read the manual to find this out). This is cool--you can insert different kinds of HP photo paper in the same stack, e.g. matte, glossy, etc. and expect to get perfect pictures without having to look in the printer to see what paper is next. Just tell it on the print menu to automatically select the paper type. I love the 21st century!
Personally, I think that HP has hit a home run with this one. While I cannot compare this one to its rivals from Epson or Canon (I have not reviewed these), I can say that I am completely satisfied. Recommended.
