Great for sales people, mortgage brokers, real estate companies and so forth.
There are Vista 32 and 64 bit drivers on Xerox's site.

Visioneer One Touch 8100 Scanner Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased the 8100 about 18 months ago. My OS was windows 98 and I had no problems installing the scanner software drivers. The scanner worked like a charm. The Paper port software allowed me to link to graphics, fax, and word packages. I updated my OS to windows 2000 and downloaded the scanner update off of the Visioneer site. Once again, the scanner works great. I read the reviews from others who purchased this scanner and was amazed that they were not happy with their purchase. Let me tell you a secret to getting this scanner to work. You must load the software "BEFORE" you plug the scanner into your USB ports. If you use Windows 2000, download the scanner update, run it, reset the computer, plug in the scanner and turn it on. Windows will see you have added the scanner and the drivers you downloaded from Visioneer will load. That is all it is to it. For the price, you cannot get a better deal on a scanner. I'm telling you, it works great.

Visioneer OneTouch 9120 USB Flatbed Scanner with 35mm Adapter Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this scanner for its ability to scan transparancies, and so far it seems to be doing the job. However, compared to my primary scanner (Lexmark X5150), I found using it as a stand-alone very confusing and finally started using it only through my PaintShop Pro 7. When it's in operation, it sounds as if it's grinding coffee, and there's now a very discernable (and growing) streak on the inside of the glass. I'd swap it out if it had been purchased locally, but for what it cost, I'm not going to bother, since it's already paid for itself over what it would have cost to have the transparencies scanned.
It's not bad as an auxiliary scanner, but if it's to be your ONLY scanner, it just doesn't seem likely to hold up. Caveat emptor!

Visioneer CardReader 100 (CR1001D-WU) Review

(More customer reviews)I had to return this scanner because it did not capture text near the edges of most of the business cards, no matter what I tried (Calibrating, Re-Orienting and re-feeding the cards). Updating the scanner drivers with the website download did not help. Visioneer's online support is unacceptably awful. Also, the bundled OCR software is not up to the task. The trial version of Corex Cardscan which I loaded for comparison performed much better with more accurate text recognition and field placement.

(More customer reviews)I read previous reviews of this scanner scoring one star. I have a vastly different experience. Installation was a snap. I'm running it at thye office with an outdated computer, Athlon 800 with 500 MB memory running XP professional. I already had PaperPort 9 installed, I updated it with the included version 11. I also installed the Omnipage but I don't really use that software.
The scanner is very fast, duplex. I've been using it for 4 months now and I haven't had any paper mismanagement. It is recognized by PhotoImpact and PhotoShop. I'm also using it with Digital Jacket, a medical DICOM reader, for document scanning. No problems. I've scanned letter, A4, 5x3 and index cards. No problem at all. I'm writing this review because I just decided to buy another one for home use. I several times moved the scanner between my workplace and home to scan documents such as bank statements etc. on my home computer that's running some sort of Intel 4-core with 2 gig memory and XP professional.
This is my first sheet-feed scanner that does what I expect. I had three sheet-feed scanners previously, from three different companies. They didn't do a good job. I was the most surprised about a top-brand printer company's scanner that I could never make work with well-known software (see above) and gave me nothing but frustration. In comparison I am perfectly happy with my Patriot 430.
I would hate to buy a scanner that has one star reviews only, so with my five-star rating will have an average at least two stars if not three :0)

(More customer reviews)I've reviewed and used many scanners over the years. Each is inevitably a compromise. However, the Strobe XP450 is by far the best that I've tried so far in its price range. It's fast. relatively resistant to jamming, easy to set up, and has less skewing than most automatic sheet feeders. It's also very compact and reliable. Highly recommended. I use it in a law office setting and it's been one of the major reasons that I have been able to move away from paper based files toward a much more efficient digital law office.

Visioneer OneTouch 9420 USB Review

(More customer reviews)I had the 9020 version so I decided to get the upgrade. All the features are nice, but I'm getting lines whenever I set the scan at anything higher than 100 dpi. The scan bar stops and starts instead of having a continuous scan. I'm trying to find if it has patch or someway to repair it, as I think I've read it does. I'll give an update if I do.
EDIT 12/17/07: I've since discovered that the main reasons I was having problems with this scanner is that the computer had trouble accessing the scanner information due to a slow processor speed. If you have a computer without adequate processing speed, the scanner bar will actually stop until this information has been sent. This actually takes only a split second, but it's long enough to form lines on your image. If you have the misfortune of using a computer that is inadequate, the scanner will refuse to work and give false error messgaes.
CONCLUSION: This is a great scanner as long as you let it work on the level it was intended. If you do buy this product, make sure your computer is reasonable new (within 2 years old or updated).

Visioneer 9450 Color Flatbed Scanner with ADF. Review

Also the SCANSOFT PaperPort CD that came with Visioneer 9450 was not compatible with Vista, so had to go to SCANSOFT site to download upgrade. Also had to call Visioneer technical support regarding the connections, since the instructions weren't 100% clear. After finally loading the right Vista driver and software, and making the correct connections,the Visioneer scanner has worked well.

Scanner works very well and the Paperport software can scan directly to .pdf files as well as other formats.

Visioneer Ultra-Slim OneTouch 7400 USB Photo Scanner (74007D-WU) Review

(More customer reviews)For 4 years, I've owned a Visioneer 7300 VISIONEER 73007DWU SCANNER VISIONEER 7300 1200 DPI, which is the immediate predecessor to the 7400. The 7400 has essentially the same specs and appearance as the 7300. The difference? Only the 7400 supports Vista.
Pro: it works OK in light duty home service- I use it mostly for imaging receipts and so on for TurboTax and Quicken. But there are 2 Cons:
1) closing Quicken always generates an error from the Visioneer software complaining about qw.exe - it's benign except for having to close the dialog box each time
2) Visioneer has no plans to update the 7300 driver to spport Vista- will the 7400 be similarly stranded in 2 years or so when MS replaces Vista?

Xerox DocuMate 152 Color ADF Duplex Scanner Review

(More customer reviews)Finally, a (relatively) affordable duplex scanner with automatic document feed! I literally have boxes of papers and magazines I've been waiting to scan, but have never been able to find a quality, affordable scanner.
For all the good things about this scanner, be sure to read the PC Magazine review (July 2006).
Here, I wanted to mention a few downsides that were not evident from the Xerox product specifications or the PC Mag review.
1) Pages per Minute - the Xerox specs state 15 pages per minute for color duplex (both sides) scan at 150 dpi. Realistically, for anything with images/pictures, 150dpi is too low, so I end up scanning at 400dpi (typically magazine pages). At this setting, the scanner only scans 1.6 pages per minute! It seems that part of the slowness is related to the driver/software, as about 40% of the scan time is due to the driver/software "catching up" with the physical scanner.
2) ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) Capacity - the Xerox specs state the feeder holds 50 pages. This may be true, however, it is not possible to use this capacity, due to what I consider to be a major software flaw. The driver software actually times out after a certain amount of processing time. I haven't found any way to change this setting (nor any mention of it in the documentation). So, if I put in any more than about 8 pages in the ADF and perform a color duplex scan at 400dpi, the scan job will complete on the hardware, and then the software will actually time out and erase the entire scan job! You may get a few more pages by reducing dpi or going black and white. But beware, that you could find yourself having to load only 8 pages at a time.
3) Image lines - the scanner lamp seems to be affected by dust/paper "lint" heavily. About every 100 pages scanned, I start seeing red and green lines showing up on my scans. I then have to open up the scanner and dust/wipe off the lamp cover. This is not as easy as it sounds, as the opening is very narrow, and sometimes it takes 2-3 tries before the lines really go away.
4) Error Handling - I consider another major software flaw to be that whenever a scanner error occurs (usually a paper jam), the software deletes the entire scan job (all pages scanned before the error). So, if you've just waited 5 minutes for a scan job to complete and the last page jams, the software deletes all the pages already scanned, and you have to start all over! Another reason that you won't necessarily want to or be able to use the full ADF capacity.
So far, I'm still on the fence regarding whether these issues will cause me to return the scanner. (I've been using the scanner for about 2 weeks).

Visioneer RoadWarrior Mobile 600 DPI USB Scanner (RW120-WU) Review

(More customer reviews)I looked closely at the NeatReceipts scanner before deciding on this one, but think made the right call.
I have been a Visioneer fan for some time, and I saw one of the Strobes used in my doctor's office and have been interested in one ever since.
The Strobes were overpriced so I never bought one, but broke down and got this one. I figured this was the low end of their line, since the documentation is for the RoadWarrior and the Strobe 100, but when I called Visioneer they told me this one has all the latest hardware in it and buying one of the other models would be a step backward. That made me feel better at least.
I should explain my decision: I used Quicken religiously and have always wanted a way to easily attach receipts to Quicken entries. (Older versions of Quicken had ways to, but they were all iffy and imperfect. Quicken 2007 does allow more direct scanning, although it, too, is pathetic but workable and does work with this scanner). I mention this because it seemed to me that the NeatReceipts scanner's claim to fame is that it reads the receipts and stores them and you can search by them. That's not ultimately what I need. My data is already sorted and I don't need to OCR the receipts--just store them for when I want to see them. Plus, buying this scanner got me PaperPort 11 (I have been using 9, refusing to upgrade due to cost) at no additional cost, which I do use extensively also. A two-for-one deal!
The scanner is actually quite nice. It may not be perfect, or a flatbed, but when I truly look at what I want one for, this is it. I've scanned over 200 receipts with it already and dozens of other documents. It's not as bulky or hard to place on my limited desk space as my old flatbed scanner (Visioneer 9320-USB). Plus, there's no "warm up" time which I always hated.
However, on the flip side, After the unit scans the document quite quickly, it pops up "Converting", which does take way too long for my taste. For a scan that takes say 10 seconds (for an 8.5x11), the conversion process takes 20-30. I THINK that time is dependent on what format you choose to scan to (i.e. Searchable PDFs take longer than PDFs), but I haven't found a format that just "pops" in to Paperport without conversion (I'll note here when you scan from Quicken 2007 into Quicken there is no conversion time--I like that!)
I have also scanned more than a few color photographs with this unit that have come out nicely. I was afraid this was mostly a B&W scanner, but it does well with color as well it seems.
As for difficulties feeding, I can say it is an art. I get more straight than crooked, and Paperport does do a good job straightening them for you, but it is annoying to have to start over. I wouldn't let that "quirk" of this hardware deter you from choosing this unit.
All in all, I am pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to others considering it.
