Fluke FP FoodPro Plus Food Safety Thermometer Tester Test Equipment Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I've been using this thermometer for several years in the quick service food industry, primarily for restaurant inspections. The probe works well, responds quickly and can be replaced if broken.
The infared function is a little less useful but handy for checking refrigeration and oven temps. If the interior surface is shiny, this makes the infared function erratic, but by hitting several spots, you can determine an average temp pretty quickly. The way the probe rotates out makes it easy to see the display. The Thermopen isn't quite as convenient in this area.
Downsides are:
- Pretty expensive
- I've had three of these units, and none have lasted beyond two years. I use the supplied holster and give the piece pretty safe care. On two of the failures, the unit was under warranty. One was out of warranty. The display becomes erratic
- On battery changes, the display reverts to Celcius. You must press the "Set" button and hold it while plugging in the two 9-volt battery contacts, not an easy feat.
- The probe rotation mechanism breaks easily.
This unit measures faster than the competing Thermopen.
Another option to consider is the Taylor 9306 Stem/Infared thermomter for about $100. However it does not measure temps as quickly as the Fluke
