Pyramid PS14KX 14 Amp Power Supply Review

Living in an area where a typical home radio does not work very well.In order to to listen to a favorite radio station after sundown is important to me.The station I listen to is at best marginal . Now that I have my car radio in place , it is well worth the added expense plus the fact that I am now experiencing HD-Radio and it is great. The resting or no load wattage drawn when not listening to the radio is quite minimal approximately 17 watts ( per Kill-A-Watt meter)that is important because that allows you to leave the power supply left on 24/7.

21c Film and Slide Digital Converter Review

21c Film and Slide Digital Converter

I bought this unit at WalMart. Too bad I cannot locate the receipt, I would have returned it long ago. The images it produces are comparable to images you get out of a webcam. Color is lacking, images are noisy, like they came out of a Fisher Price digital camera. Do not be fooled by the cheapness, save your pennies and invest in a better product.

HP PSC 1210 Multifunction Review

HP PSC 1210 Multifunction
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Okay, so this is HP's newest all-in-one.
As expected of these All-in-one's not all features are equally good, so I'll review each of them separately.
Printer: A+
This is real Photo-printer. I printed 3 4"x6" photos captured by my digital camera at 1600x1200 resolution, on the FREE sample Premium Plus Photo Glossy provided. Result? Absolute TOP notch. There's simply no way anyone can tell that the photos were not developed at a Kodak studio.
Copier: A-
You can use the copier without having to turn on your computer. I copied a color photo (of a face) in black and white mode, and it looked pretty decent. Document copy was excellent. Copying great photos (sunset) is not so good because of the scanner... see next item.
Scanner: B-
I tried scanning a stunning sunset photo taken from my SLR film camera. The result was disappointing. There are noticeable scan lines in the scanned image. It looked bad when "Set as desktop background". Didnt even try printing it. Text scanning was ok though...
Package: A-
Contents include: Printer, Power-cord, Free Glossy paper samples, good imaging software. All you need after getting your printer is a USB cable (why can't they bundle it??). I picked up a $7 USB2 6ft cable at local [store].
Overall Verdict: A
For the price, it beats HP's own photo printers hands down. (and they don't even copy/scan). So if you need a photo printer, with a decent copier and ok scanner, PSC1210 is the way to go. Not to mention that its the smallest All-in-one available. However, if you're looking to scan top-notch images to burn on a CD, invest in a standalone scanner. My friend has a epson perfection which scanned the sunset shot just fine.

One of the world's smallest flatbed all-in-one multifunction devices, the HP PSC 1210 prints, copies, and scans with a modest 16.8-by-10.2-inch footprint. With this one-stop imaging center, you receive true-to-life photo-quality results with up to 4,800 optimized dpi resolution (with premium photo paper and 1,200 x 1,200 dpi input). Printing and copying speeds are plenty fast for home users, coming in at 12 pages per minute maximum in black and up to 10 ppm in color. With the 1210, home copying becomes exceptionally convenient, even without a PC. You'll enjoy simple one-button operation and easy enlargements.
The flatbed scanner lets you easily scan family photos, important documents, or even books or other 3-D objects. Use the included HP photo and imaging software to get creative with your scanned images--print photos, stickers, iron-on T-shirt transfers, and unique scrapbook pages.
HP provides an instant setup reference guide that will have you up and running in just a few minutes. Note that the printer is PC and Mac compatible; only Mac versions OS 9.1, OS X v 10.1.x and 10.2.3 or higher are supported. A one-year warranty provides protection on parts and labor.

Brother MFC-240C Color Inkjet All-in-One Printer with Fax Review

Brother MFC-240C Color Inkjet All-in-One Printer with Fax
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was hesitant to purchase this based on all the mediocre reviews, but I am extremely happy with the 240c. I think its about the best multi-function you can get for under a hundred bucks (with the possible exception of tha Canon Pixma). First, a few of these reviews contain critical errors about the unit. First: It IS possible to scan multiple documents into a single PDF file. One simple way is to load up your documents into the top paper feeder, then scan to PDF, and every page it scans will be put into the same file. Another way to do it is to use the Presto Pagemanager software that comes on the installation CD. Second: the 240c DOES have incoming fax capabilities...you have to enable it in the Fax options on the unit's menu setup (not on your computer). It does not have a handset so you cannot use it as a phone, but at least on the 240c that I have, it can indeed receive faxes. Third: the reason the unit will not print anything even if only one cartridge is blank is because it uses a suction type cart (different from most inkjets), and damage to the unit will occur if an empty cartridge is left in. That said, here's my review.
Build quality is overall very durable, with the possible exception of the paper tray. It won't turn any heads with its bland utilitarian appearance, but its compact and sturdy for home or home office usage. It also looks like an office machine, as opposed to the flimsy Fisher-Price looking offerings from HP and Lexmark. The controls are laid out sufficiently and you should be able to figure things out by surfing through the unit's menu, although there are alot of setup options so you may have to do some searching. The only complaints about the design are the small, non-backlit display and the paper tray. The paper tray is more like a paper container with a lid, that loads like a cartridge. If you only print on one type of paper its fine, but if you want to switch and print envelopes, 4X6, etc., it can do it but you have to take the tray out, take out all the paper, adjust the slider, then put in the new paper and re-insert.
Print and scan quality are just fine. In fact, the scanner is very impressive and scans are much better quality than the Canon it replaced. Print quality is just fine...I dont see any washed out colors or anything else others have noted. Its prints as good as any unit will under a hundred bucks. The copy and scan features work just great and fast. You can either use the computer to make copies or you can bypass your PC altogether and use it as a standalone copier. Most of the features can be run either from the software or the unit itself, which is great. The top-feeding document accepter is a huge time saver. Also, the lid on the scanner is hinged allowing you to scan thicker items, like books, easily.
As far as ink usage, some settings must be adjusted to get longer life. First, disable "bi-directional printing" as it uses alot of ink and wrinkles the paper. Set the paper-type to "plain." This is huge, because if you dont, even if you select grayscale printing, it will pull ink from the color cartidges. Also, if you print mostly text, set the print quality to the "fast" settings, and it looks just fine. You want to conserve ink, since these cartridges run about 20-25 bucks for black, and around 12-14 for each color. But, the cartridges are huge so they should last average users a while. For heavy office use, you may want to look at a a higher end or laser model.
The fax feature I dont use so I cant comment much on how that works. It also accepts most major memory cards for photo printing, but without a preview screen your better off printing pics from your computer. It is also worth noting that this unit IS Mac compatible (many of the sub-$100 machines aren't), although I had to update the drivers and software from Brother's website after installing the CD to get some scanning features to work. I'm assuming this has something to do with the whole Intel / PPC switch. I'd highly advise you to do the same...their site is just their name, and the update offerings fixed the few bugs I encountered.
Overall I am very impressed with this unit. I had returned an HP c3180 multi-function because it couldnt hold a handle to this as far as overall quality and value. Highly recommended for home and light home office use.

Cobra 148 GTL 40-Channel CB Radio Review

Cobra 148 GTL 40-Channel CB Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First unit shipped to me received fine but the transmit audio was terrible. Even with the Dynamike turned up all the way people could barely hear me. Had to literally shout to be heard at all.
To Amazon's credit they sent me a replacement unit 2nd day air. Amazon has been great to deal with, as always.
This second radio seems to transmit fine so far. However, the speaker of this radio emits a constant, low volume, high pitched whine when receiving. The first radio did not have this "feature".
The good news is all of the controls and features seem to work correctly and the noise blanker and automatic noise limiter do a terrific job stopping car ignition noises. I figure I will keep this radio and live with the whine and hope no other problems crop up. If they do I will change my rating.
