Kodak Carousel Transvue 80 Slide Tray B80T Review

Kodak Carousel Transvue 80 Slide Tray B80T
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Trying to decide between the two popular 80 capacity trays Kodak produced? The Ektagraphic Universal trays and the Transvue BT80 trays are both designed to work with the exact same projectors. The latch mechanism design is a little different on them but both types work well, are durable, and both are "Universal" (they both fit the exact same Carousel and Ektagraphic III projector models). The only real difference is the color, so if you prefer black buy the Ektagraphic Universal tray, if you prefer gray buy the BT80 (Transvue) trays.
If you are considering the Kodak 140 capacity trays and your slides are more than 20 years old it can be a bit of a gamble. Many slide types, especially the Kodak cardboard mounts that were so popular for decades, will normally warp just a little with age. When this happens they will still work fine in the 80 capacity trays but tend to jam occasionally (or often depending on the degree of the warp) when used in the 140 capacity tray. So if you have cardboard or plastic mounted slides (and you would like for them to work dependably for years to come) it is safer to stick with the 80 capacity trays.

Pacific Image PrimeFilm 3600u for Windows and Mac Review

Pacific Image PrimeFilm 3600u for Windows and Mac
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This scanner is a reasonably good value and does a reasonably good job. If you have tried scanning prints with a flatbed scanner, you will be happier with the results you get scanning negatives with the PrimeFilm. A couple of caveats: first, this scanner is not fast. One roll of film a day is probably as much as you'll have patience for. Second, the scanned image quality is only as good as your negatives, and your old negatives are probably more fragile than you expected. Plan to spend a fair amount of time cleaning up blemishes in PhotoShop, and, frankly, if you used a cheap camera in the first place, don't even bother; you'll do just as well scanning the prints (and a decent flatbed scanner is a lot cheaper).
One last thing: if you want to save some money, go buy this scanner at C-O-S-T-C-O-D-O-T-C-O-M.

NEWFS1700-Silver(with 2GB) Digital Film 35mm Negative & Slides Scanner with Build-in LCD (SVP 2GB Memory Card Included) Review

NEWFS1700-Silver(with 2GB) Digital Film 35mm Negative and Slides Scanner with Build-in LCD (SVP 2GB Memory Card Included)

I bought this product to transper my parents slides to digital so we can look at them easier. How many people have a broken slide projector at home? Slides were the "in" thing back in the 60's and 70's so everyone has a bunch in the basement. The cheapest price to send the slides out that I found was .19 cents each so that was not an option when you have about 2000 plus. This is so easy to use that I could not believe it. It came with software and you can hook the scanner directly up to the computer but you can just use a SD card and then pop it in the computer when your done. The scanner has adjustments but I left it on the default settings and it worked great. The view screen is pretty small but it lets you see what your doing. It takes longer to put the slides in the holder than to scan it (about 5 seconds to scan each slide). I did about 420 slides in about 2 hours one day so it goes pretty quick. The quality of the scan is only as good as the slide itself but it still is better than having the slides in a box in the basement and nobody looks at them. If you want the quickest and cheapest way to get slides to digital this is your machine. The scanner also works well on film negatives. You just have to change the setting on the scanner and your in business.

SVP FS1200-Black Digital Film 35mm Negatives & Slides Scanner Review

SVP FS1200-Black Digital Film 35mm Negatives and Slides Scanner
Average Reviews:

This product did allow me to scan the family slides, but it did not live up to its description. First of all, the software did not work with Vista, even though it was supposed to work with up through Windows 7. It loaded OK, but then "could not find the scanner." There was no way to get manufacturer help: no links, no printed web address, and not even a telephone number. Finally I loaded the software into an older computer running on Windows XP. It worked, but it was touchy. Sometimes the screen would flicker or freeze entirely. It seemed to be helped by adjusting the display settings on my computer.
After scanning about four carousels of slides (several hundred), the rear flap of the scanner snapped leaving a dangling part inside the unit. I then had to watch very carefully to avoid catching the slide tray so that the tray would not become lodged partway in. At some point the flap came completely off.
Fortunately I had access to an XP computer, and the broken flap did not prevent me from finishing my project. I was not able to manipulate the photos as I had hoped, but at least my family memories are now digitized. If you have a computer running XP and your project is relatively small, the SVP-1200 might work out OK. Otherwise, you should probably consider something more user friendly and more durable.

This device works great on my mother's vista laptop.
But on my windows 7 computer, no go. Reads on windows 7 as ovt scanner. When I press the "scann from film" button, I get a notice says "scanner not connected"
at the svp website, they don't even list the product. They show svp fs 1000, same drivers different bundled image editor. when installing the drivers i am prompted to accept or reject the install of ovt.
Wish they had a better website, or a forum to get support.
[...]
I would have really loved to use this because i have old photos of my kid I want to move to my pc. Meanwhile you can't pry mo mother's laptop from her farmville fingers.

Pacific Image ImageBox for Windows and Mac Review

Pacific Image ImageBox for Windows and Mac
Average Reviews:

I bought this unit mainly to duplicate some 1960's slides though I thought the negatives and picture duplication was a plus but when I used it the picture and negative dupliction were actually , on a scale of 1-10 , a (7) for negatives and a (8) for pictures but the slides were about a (4) ! The slides on bright pictures were blurry and the darker pictures had blocks of squares on shadow lines instead of nice smooth lines ! I ended up sending it back , having 100's of slides to do and didn't want to do again if I find a good quality one !

SVP FS1800 Silver Digital Film & Slide Scanner w/ 2.4" LCD Review

SVP FS1800 Silver Digital Film and Slide Scanner w/ 2.4 LCD
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have all these old slides and negatives that I've been meaning to convert for several years now. I finally caved and bought this scanner so I could at least get them on my computer.
It does an okay job. It is not archival quality. It scans quickly and easily, you can adjust the exposure and a few other things in the unit.
I never intended to print anything out, and it's fine for just converting the memories to digital. It's a little fiddly to use - the slide carrier only takes 3 slides at a time and I find it a little difficult to fit them snugly into the carrier. I haven't used the negative carrier yet, but it looks like it takes a full strip of negs.
I thought I would be able to plug it into my mac and upload the scans as they were scanned, but no. I have to plug the scanner into the wall socket, scan the images to an SD card then transfer them.
It seems a little temperamental too - sometimes it won't turn on so I'll unplug it from the wall once or twice, close the lid and open it and eventually it will switch on.
All in all, does an okay job. A little fiddly. Probably a bit too pricey for what it is. I would not buy it again, that's for sure.

Slide Scanner Gets History Out of the Shoebox Review

Slide Scanner Gets History Out of the Shoebox
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this product to digitize a number of color slides and film negatives to PNE or JPEG image formats. Even though the scanner's imaging CMOS lens resolution is listed as 48 bits, the scanned image quality was very poor (grainy, uneven, out of focus). The editing software included with the package was also rudimentary and not very intuitive. I would not recommend this product; unfortunately, it was a waste of money.

Imagelab FS5CO5 5 Megapixel Slide and Negative Scanner Review

Imagelab FS5CO5 5 Megapixel Slide and Negative Scanner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

I've worked in the film industry for over twenty years, and helped develop scanning technology for negative/digital conversion of motion picture film. For this price, and the convenience, the ImageLab FS5CO5 scanner is a good choice for home-quality slide conversions. However, it is not without some definite shortcomings...
Scanning slides on my illuminated flatbed scanner was a slow and tedious process, especially since they had to be loaded one at a time, and took several minutes to calibrate and scan. That was fine for a few slides, but not when doing stacks and stacks. I've been looking for something quick and easy that my parents could use to import our thousands of family photos into the computer. I had looked at these hand-held "scanners" before, and the high prices and lack of quality always kept me from springing for one. There are also scanners that can scan multiple images, and are automated, but they also cost significantly more.
There are some very nice design elements to the ImageLab FS5CO5 scanner which set it above the other quick-shot scanners. Its' design is clean and self-explanatory. The functions are clearly labeled. There's one button for slides, and one button for film negatives. It also has a very handy "live" screen so you can see what's positioned and ready to scan. It's very fast, and although the scans come out very contrasty, a couple of quick adjustments in iPhoto produce very nice results, considering for the speed and simplicity. If you don't have iPhoto, or some basic knowledge of adjusting photos in another program, you might not be happy with the images as they come straight from the scanner. Some of my slides produced blown out highs, and inky black shadows before I tweaked them in the computer. If you do have iPhoto, load the scan, brighten the shadows, and lower the highlights, for a quick, and massive, improvement.
Some of the benefits of the ImageLab scanner.
-5 mp images. If the image is sharp, this megapixel size is enough for cropping and enlarging.
-SD Card. I love this feature. I have a Mac, and lots of computer hardware will only include software for a PC. With the simplicity of using a SD memory card in the ImageLab FS5CO5 Scanner, I can load the scans to my computer as easily as I upload my camera's photos. It also makes it very portable, for scanning slides when on a trip or visiting a relative.
-Quick Scanning. Flatbeds frequently take several minutes to scan a slide. This produces the best result, but if you're doing hundreds and hundreds of slides, it can take forever. This one is as fast as a camera. Push/click/done. Technically, this is a camera and not a scanner, which is why it works so fast. The camera just takes a closeup pic of the slide. It's never as good as the slow version, but you can save the time-consuming efforts for the special slides.
-Feels solid. Nice construction. Seems durable. Doesn't have that "cheap plastic" feel.
-Slide trays easily snap in place inside the scanner. Once loaded, the trays just slide in, and click in place.
-Good price.
However...
Some of the weaknesses of the ImageLab FS5CO5 Scanner.
The slide trays are not as well designed as they could be. They have a very shallow "footprint" to position each of the slides when being loaded. With the comparative depth of the closed tray, the frame could have been twice as deep, which would have made it much easier to drop the slides in place. As it is, you have to gently nudge the slides into place before the lid will close on the slide tray. This might not be a problem when doing a couple of slides, but when attempting to get through a bulk of slides, this gets progressively annoying.
The 35mm negative trays are another matter entirely. The standard 35mm negatives that I attempted to scan would not fit within the guides. The 35mm negatives that I tried were ordinary, flat, negatives that had been stored in a sleeve. There wasn't anything unusual about them. However, they puckered when trying to force them between the guide rails of the tray. I realize that film may have some organic irregularities, but this seemed significant. The gap between the outer edge of the sprocket and the rail beside it is very narrow, and would not accommodate any of the negatives that I tried last night. Ironically, with the guide sprockets for registration, you don't really need the rails in the first place.
So, until they fix the 35mm negative tray, it's questionable if you'd be happy trying to preserve family photos while potentially creasing or scraping the negatives. But, for a quick and easy way to get slides into the computer, I'd definitely give the ImageLab scanner a good consideration. It's not "archive quality" to the point that you could get rid of old slides, but it sure does make it a lot easier to enjoy them now.

Imagelab FS9T 9 MP Slide and Negative Scanner with 2.4-Inch Tft LCD Screen Review

Average Reviews:

Wow, I am totally impressed with this product. Not only was it simple to setup and use but it integrated to my MAC without a flaw. The quality of the images are amazing (providing that the slides are good). I have scanned photos in the past but find digitally converting the slides to be much better quality. NOTE: remember to blow off the dust on the slides before you scan them. The system comes with 2 trays each for slides or negatives. Although that may not seem like a lot (3 slides per tray) it proved to be fine. I also used the SD memory card from my camera so I didn't have to buy another one. I do recommend using a memory card for without it the system can only store about 10 pictures. With the memory card I was able to use the machine and the 1000 slides I have and quickly convert them while I was watching a movie. Later I went back to my desk and connected the scanner to my MAC and downloaded. Easy! If you have old slides I highly recommend doing this. Not only will you get a good laugh at old memories but for me I will be putting together a DVD to give as gifts. I am sure the rest of my family will get a kick out of the old pictures as well.

ION FILM 2 SD 35mm Film and Slide Scanner Review

ION FILM 2 SD 35mm Film and Slide Scanner
Average Reviews:

For $100, it's not bad. This device holds 3 slides in a bracket. The bracket is kinda fussy. Although the actual scan takes only a second or two, my steady stream average was 20 seconds per slide, mostly due to loading and unloading the bracket. Still, it's easy to do watching TV. No file-naming or computer fiddling is necessary during scanning. The SD card is dumped later onto a computer in one easy step, so that's good. The scans themselves are OK quality. Those old slides have really killer resolution and color, and you lose that. But for vacation shots from the 70s you want to view and share on your computer, this will do just fine.
