I borrowed a film/slide scanner from a friend and was very displeased with the results. Images were soft, color was off and unless you hit the button at just the right time, the image would be washed out. So I bought the SVP Film Scanner and what a difference. The images are crisp and the color is right on. I am very pleased. The only drawback, if you can call it that, is that you must scan the film or slides into the scanner, and then via usb connection, import them into your computer. You cannot go directly to your computer as you scan your film or slides. No great shakes, just 2 steps instead of one. But as I said, the quality of the images is great and I'd recommend this scanner very highly to anyone.

I bought this product to transper my parents slides to digital so we can look at them easier. How many people have a broken slide projector at home? Slides were the "in" thing back in the 60's and 70's so everyone has a bunch in the basement. The cheapest price to send the slides out that I found was .19 cents each so that was not an option when you have about 2000 plus. This is so easy to use that I could not believe it. It came with software and you can hook the scanner directly up to the computer but you can just use a SD card and then pop it in the computer when your done. The scanner has adjustments but I left it on the default settings and it worked great. The view screen is pretty small but it lets you see what your doing. It takes longer to put the slides in the holder than to scan it (about 5 seconds to scan each slide). I did about 420 slides in about 2 hours one day so it goes pretty quick. The quality of the scan is only as good as the slide itself but it still is better than having the slides in a box in the basement and nobody looks at them. If you want the quickest and cheapest way to get slides to digital this is your machine. The scanner also works well on film negatives. You just have to change the setting on the scanner and your in business.

This device works great on my mother's vista laptop.
But on my windows 7 computer, no go. Reads on windows 7 as ovt scanner. When I press the "scann from film" button, I get a notice says "scanner not connected"
at the svp website, they don't even list the product. They show svp fs 1000, same drivers different bundled image editor. when installing the drivers i am prompted to accept or reject the install of ovt.
Wish they had a better website, or a forum to get support.

I would have really loved to use this because i have old photos of my kid I want to move to my pc. Meanwhile you can't pry mo mother's laptop from her farmville fingers.
