(More customer reviews)The Cobra 29 50th Anniversary CB is a very attractive radio. With it's "cutting edge" digital display (I only say cutting edge because digital displays have been around for how long, seriously?) it's the first CB radio that I am aware of to offer this feature.
I just got back into CBing and I had a pretty easy time setting it up. The Radio Tests were the most useful and most confusing part of the radio. Upon first activation I kept getting a "Antenna Warning" which is something I'd never experienced before CBing in the past, simply because no other CB would warn you of poor performance or setup. I found out that the warning was simply because my antenna wasn't tuned properly.
The weather stations come in clearly and the scan feature is nice for trying to find conversations on channels other than 19. All other features seemed pretty standard. If something else comes to mind will comment later. Please ask a question if you think I'm wise enough to answer it. :-)
Overall, I like the radio. I only rated it 4 stars based on my limited experience with CB radios. I'll attach photos of it in my Jeep.

(More customer reviews)The Cobra 75 WX ST Weatherband CB provides an incredible amount of functionality in a very small package. Installation is fast and easy - with a couple tools, your antenna mounted, and little skill, you can have this radio up and running in an hour or two.
CB radios are limited to low-power broadcasting at 4 watts or less. This radio provides maximum power allowed by law and is capable of some pretty incredible range under the right conditions. With a properly tuned, high-quality antenna, I have had coversations with others using the same radio up to 9 miles away. Under normal circumstances, 1-2 miles is more realistic.
As for features, this one has several:
- Scan (all 40 channels in sequence)
- Dual Scan (two channels of your choice)
- Memory
- Lock (so the hand controls don't get reset by accident)
- Weatherband (10 NOAA frequencies)
- Last 3 channels
- SoundTracker (like Dolby noise reduction)
I use mine in a 1999 Jeep Wrangler where there is little extra space for another device. It fits perfectly on my console with the small box hidden away inside.
I can listen to truckers while I am on the highway, talk to my friends when we go off-highway, or scan the channels for both when driving to and from the trails. In the two years I have used mine, it has never given me any problems. It is very sturdy and should stand up to hard use.
I purchased the optional external speaker so that it would be easier to hear but many people find the unit works well right out of the box!
There might be bigger, badder CB's out there, but this one is a peach!

Uniden PC78LTW 40-Channel CB Radio Review

(More customer reviews)I recently bought one of these radios for my semi tractor. I immediately fell in love with the backlit controls. Years ago, I owned the Cobra version of this radio, but I didn't like it as much as this one. The controls are laid out very logically and have a nice feel. The Delta tune has a center detent for "eyes free" operation as you drive. The weather channels are a welcome addition to a long drive, keeping you informed of changing and/or severe weather ahead. The only things I didn't care that much for are the Dynamic Squelch feature and the front mic connector. DSC doesn't seem to work too well, but I drive with the squelch off (to hear distant signals), so this doesn't detract from an otherwise great radio. Having owned various Cobras, Galaxies, and other "big" radios, I can honestly say I like the Uniden PC78LTW the best.

Uniden PRO510XL 40-Channel CB Radio Review

(More customer reviews)I am partial to Uniden anyway, however this CB is great for a first time user or as a back up to a more expensive unit. I have been using CB for about 10 years and I always make sure I have a Uniden 510 available for a back up, or use it in a second car. It has superior range when used with a good antenna and the received audio is decent. I would suggest using an external speaker unless you have a super quiet vehicle. The anl switch cuts through static really well to improve reception, although it sometimes dulls out the audio of the person you are trying to hear. You can use it with a cigarette lighter plug with an adapter from radio shack for a few dollars. They will even show you how to hook it up. It all boils down to being a great CB at a great price. Remember a simple rule of thumb... An inexpensive CB on a good antenna will perform just as well as a high-end CB on a cheap antenna. Don't forget to tune your antenna and have fun!

Uniden BC355C 800MHz 300-Channel Base Mobile Scanner (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I am a long time scanner user and own and have used many different ones over the years...from early crystal 8 channel ones to some of the very latest trunking, multi-channel units. I find this compact unit an ideal second or third scanner to carry in your car as it has so many great features to assist you when you are traveling...heading the list is the Close Call option.
The "Close Call" allows you to 'grab' any nearby strong signals, say from a tower along the road, the drive up window at your local fast food place or to find the frequency that is being used by that police car or fire truck in the next lane. A great 'sub-option' with CloseCall is the DND..."Do Not Disturb" setting that you can use. Any of the so-called "Priority" type options on most scanners cause the radio to interrupt every audio transmission at frequent intervals...usually every 2 or 3 seconds. The DND comes into play when you are listening to an active channel...and the DND suspends the 'interrupt' until the audio is over. And I can relate that IF you have a Priority feature active, it will cause a short bit of silence at the MOST critical time of the broadcast...Murphy's Law I guess...! So, running CloseCall with DND active gives the best of both worlds...a 'Frequency Finding' ability that does NOT become a huge pain at the most critical times...
The next most useful feature of this 355C is the way you can 'link' any combination of the scan groups. Nearly all other scanners make you choose between Police OR Fire OR CB OR Air...etc. This scanner allows you to choose to scan just a single bank..this might be your Private Bank of 100 channels of your choosing....or...any combination of Private, Police, Fire/Emerg, Air, Marine or CB. This means that when you are in open country where there are few radio transmissions, you can opt to scan every pre-programmed frequency in the radio..and that is close to 4000 channels...!!!...just listening to anything that might pop up...

While this scanner does NOT have actual TrunkTracking, I still use it to monitor our local 800 MZ trunking system by just entering the 15 frequencies that are used here, and then once a day, I lock out the one channel that is used for the Control Channel that day. I do this by use of the neat "Temp. Lock Out" button to keep the Control Channel quiet. Now it does NOT "lock onto" a TalkGroup..(I use a BCT-8 for that when needed) but most of the time the conversations will stay on the same freq. for the entire exchange, so you normally hear the complete conversation this way.
This is not a scanner that you would want if you intend on changing to a different set of freqs every day or so...it's not difficult to put in your own 100...or 200...or all 300 favorites, but once that is done, it's best to use this scanner as a very useful tool for listening to a LOT of channels and finding new frequencies to monitor.
And finally, this unit is very easy to use in a vehicle...it only takes the press of one button to alter the setup of the banks...so that makes it a very minimum distraction to your driving...it's not unlike changing stations on the AM-FM radio....but a LOT more interesting..!!
