Microsoft Optical Desktop with Fingerprint Reader (BZ5-00002) Review

I wanted a new mouse and keyboard, and when I saw this package I was intrigued by the fingerprint reader. And skeptical too. Like the title of my review says though, it's amazing. The fingerprint reader was so easy to set up and works like a dream. If you're like most internet users, with an ever-growing list of logins and passwords, then I promise you'll love this feature. The keyboard itself is very comfortable and has lots of cool features, like easily programmable 'favorites' buttons for launching commonly used programs, and other buttons that I wasn't expecting that were a great bounus: like My Documents, My Pictures, My Music, Mail, Web/Home, Messenger, Calculator, and more. Also buttons for controlling speaker volume and media playback. The wireless optical mouse that's included is great -- also easy to set up, fast and smooth cursor control, good scroll wheel with tilt feature for horizontal scrolling. I have average to smaller hands and the mouse fits me perfectly. If you have large hands you may find it a little small.
Overall, I highly recommend this optical desktop package.

APC BIOPOD Biometric Password Manager (USB) Review

APC BIOPOD Biometric Password Manager (USB)
Average Reviews:

I decided a while ago that $20 was the golden price for fingerprint scanners - the price at which they are worth their cost. However, I got impatient and I'm glad I did. I managed to get my Biopod for $40 including shipping and it has been worth it simply in cool factor. Fortunately the annoying voice files are easily replacable (/Softex/Omnipass/Sounds/) and I have gotten plenty of compliments and "wows" from people in my dorm when my computer asks me in a female British accent for "biometric authorization". Just find one of the many text-to-speech sites out there with an interactive demo, and record your own sound files. As far as authorization goes, I have not seen a false positive from my other fingers or my friends' fingers, and the only time I get a negative is when I scan the wrong part of my finger. The Biopod recognizes my finger from a pretty good range of angles and different placements.
Cool factor aside, the Biopod has saved me a lot of password reset e-mails. It's not secure to use the same password on lots of different web sites these days and it was getting really hard for me to remember them all. When the bundled Omnipass software detects a password field in your active window it prompts you to enter your username and password in the window (for the last time), click on the Omnipass bubble that popped up, and then click on the window containing the fields. From that point on, whenever you visit that site you will be prompted for your fingerprint and logged in. On some sites with certain types of login methods, Omnipass will only be able to fill in the information, not automatically submit it as well, but I have found this to be very rarely the case. The Biopod is a huge time saver. Also, not that I have much cause to use it as a college student, but the encryption feature of the Omnipass software is pretty cool and I'm sure it's useful for those with sensitive data, whether you are hiding it from competitors or your parents.
I'm running XP Home SP1 and had no trouble setting up, installing, and enrolling. I've noticed no slowdown in any way whatsoever since installing the software, although admittedly not much slows down an Athlon 64 3000 and a GB of RAM.
I would strongly reccomend the Biopod to anyone looking to store their passwords, protect sensitive data, or just indulge their geeky side. If you want to wait for it to be $30 I wouldn't blame you, but it's a great little device.

Microsoft Fingerprint Reader Review

I saw this thing at CompUSA and as a good shopper I went and did my research on line. I think this is an excellen X-Mas gift for any people who like computers and such. I got mine installed in 5 minutes. One reboot and ready to go. This gadget is easy to set up and to use. Definitely a lot of fun. Now, why didn't it get 5 stars you ask? Two things, does not appear to work well with Mozilla Firefox browser and it is not 100% secure. Right in the manual it is written that this gadget is not to be used for sensitve web sites like say your bank account. Well, all the sensitive web sites have these password rules, got to have a "-" or something in your password. Who is to remember this nonsense? I was hoping this thing would do like a super duper encryption and allow me to store passwords on like a USB flash memory drive so I can unplug it when I am on vacation or something, but nope, no such luck. Still quite a cool gadget, I can get the browse opened and be logged into Amazon just by putting my finger down on the gadget and clicking on Amazon.com account ;)

NAV 9 SLATE PC (16GB) TABLET PC NETBOOK LAPTOP UMPC COMPUTER with WINDOWS 7 HP
Average Reviews:

I bought this for my wife, and have only had it a couple days now. So far this little tablet has really impressed me. It booted faster than any of my newer high-end pcs. I'll keep the review short and list the positives and negatives that I found with it.
Positives:
1) Nice and small
2) Comes w/ case and car charging kit
3) Very fast w/ a 16GB solid state and no bloatware loaded
4) Setup Office/Live Mesh/Defender & configured wireless all within an hour
5) Webcam, voice, and handwriting already installed and seems to work pretty good
Negatives:
1) Resistance based touchscreen, get used to the stylus especially around the outer edges of the screen
2) For the price it should have a bit larger SSD drive
3) No accelerometer, and no easy way to switch portrait/landscape views
Overall I think this is a very workable tablet and ideal for light work.
