Canon BJC-85 Portable Color Bubble Jet Printer Review

The Canon BJC-85 is a small, lightweight printer that is easy to pack and works wonderfully well. It has both parallel and USB connections for PC's or MAC's. The quality of the black text printing is very good - especially when you consider the small size and light weight of this printer. The color printing is also amazingly good. The software loads easily, and I had mine up and running in a matter of minutes attached to my laptop. You'll need to buy either a parallel or USB cable, since it isn't included. Canon has the best reputation, by far, of all the brands who make portable printers and this is their newest model. This is really a terrific little printer that is well worth the price for people on the road who need to print from their laptops.

The Canon BJC-85 color bubble jet printer is an exceptional combination of lightweight portability and professional-quality desktop printing--a remarkably fast, commanding little printer, enabling you to produce letters, memos, and reports on all your excursions. The perfect companion to your desktop or laptop, both Mac and PC compatible, the Canon BJC-85 color bubble jet printer is practical for travel and use just about anywhere with its long-life battery (and optional battery pack) and the AC adapter. Plus, fast built-in infrared IrDA wireless technology lets you print without a cable connection.
Sleek size is just an introduction to the printer: documents print in crisp 720 x 360 dpi black and at a surprisingly swift speed--for a portable printer--of five pages per minute in black and white and two pages per minute in color. These rates are supported by a 30-sheet paper feed for continuous printing. The crisp and vibrant colors delivered by the Canon BJC-85 color bubble jet printer on charts, graphs, and photos are necessity, not luxury, whether you are home or away. Even with the AC adapter and optional battery included, the Canon BJC-85 weighs in at just 4.5 pounds. Printing while on the road or in the air is easy when you carry the Canon BJC-85 color bubble jet printer's impressive high quality with you. A universal power adapter, color and black ink cartridges, and a CD-ROM with printer/scanner drivers are included. Canon offers a one-year limited warranty on parts and labor with SelectExchange on the BJC-85 printer.

I just received this from a lady friend after converting over a thousand slides for her in exchange for her watching our house when we (my wife and me) are out of town. I finished today, and I understand the FC-C520-VP is mine, now. It was a disappointment when I first saw it, but it gets the job done...for the price. I found out how much dust can be on each slide. Taking care to do a good job, I used Corel Paint Shop Pro, Photo 2 to correct each picture before saving. It did a fair-good job...just a lot of work, I can't beat the price!

Belkin F5U002 USB Parallel Printer Adapter Review

Belkin F5U002 USB Parallel Printer Adapter

I purchased this cable a few weeks ago to replace my bi-directional cable for my HP Deskjet 697C. While I agree that the packaging was poor and left much untold. What I found was a product which I was more than satisfied with. Like the others, I am a Computer Tech. A System Administrator to be exact. I was having communication problems with my printer since purchase. Sometimes the bi-directional communications would work-sometimes not. Print jobs would hang after a couple of pages. This cable has resolved that problem. After reading these reviews, I would like to make mention that the packaging does not guarentee complete compatibility. Remember, this cable is designed to merge two types of communication which were NOT meant to be used on the same peripheral. USB is actually a networking technology. When your printer is connected using this cable, it is seen as a networked printer. If they are not designed to be a network printer, then the limitation is with your printer. And, the bi-directional technology in HP products only serves to provide feedback to the computer like paper outages. The printer works just fine without the bi-directional capability. Though it was a little depressing to find this, it isn't the cables fault. It is just the limitations you get when mixing two types of communication technologies. Overall, I am more than satisfied with the product. Just be smart and do the research before buying and buy from someone who has a return policy if it isn't compatible with your particular printer.

Don't know what's up with that other guy, but this thing is not slow. It's probably the fastest printer I've owned. Mine Prints about 20 sheets a minute.
Couple of tips for the noobs: Don't buy official Ink. You want to pay $20 per cartridge instead of $3 for generic, you'd save money by going to the copy shop instead. Also, the handy dandy feature which tells you when your ink is low, is nothing but an ink/money waster. The software will claim your ink is out when you can shake the cartridge and easily see that you have more than half left. This was done on purpose to sell more ink. It will not let you continue to use a cartridge it believes is empty. You need to get the refillable cartridges with the reset chips. After that, all you need to buy is ink. Also, if you have a Mac, or something weird, go to the website and download the latest drivers (duh).

No need for the Android driver on the CD (good thing because the phone wouldn't let me side-load it), Just pair and go. I did need to enter 0000 pair key (into both the keyboard (0000+ENTER) and the phone). After that I was able to use it with Quick Office to make a Word doc. I haven't had a chance to check range yet, will do that tomorrow and add a comment to the post updating the info. Also the F9-F12 can be entered by a combo of keys according to another review (I don't remember which ones thou)
Edit: Ok, a little testing and my range so far is 9 feet with clear line of sight. After my replacement Multimedia Dock for my Moto Atrix arrives I will do a more comprehensive (and greater distance) test. Also to use F9-F12 you press Fn+1,2,3,4.
And the Back light is Fn+F1 and after it times out press any key and it turn back on.
Edit: Ok, 10+ feet and no problem. Got a HD Dock that works and sat on my couch and surfed the net using Firefox on my phone/computer. Sweet! It's just like the Atrix commercial ""Is it a phone or a computer?". Oh BTW no problem using the keyboard and track pad, paired as soon as I turned it on. Remember, always turn the computer on first, then the keyboard.

I guess this goes with everything now days but I have to say that I used to swear by Epson products. I sold them at multiple levels in different sales jobs and have used them almost exclusively for my printing needs for the last 20 years but, never again will I buy Epson!
This printer and the customer service are just the icing on the cake. I have also the RX595 printer which suddenly decided it does not want to recognize ink cartridges. Gives the message to make sure I am using an Epson cartridge. Went out and bought a complete set for about $90 and of course nothing. Well, I figured I'd work that out later and picked up this workforce 615.
I was very excited about this printer as my main focus was on a quality machine with built in wireless. Well, the machine still works although the print quality to me any way is a bit disappointing. Maybe I was just expecting too much after the 595. The real problem is that the wireless in this printer went out after about 3 months. I went through all of Epson's online support and FAQ's to no avail. Sent an email and they told me it was probably the printer and I should call for warranty. Really, after only 3 months, that sucks but OK. I called and for over an hour was on the phone with tech support. They insisted that even though it will work wire to the router and even though all other wireless devices work and nothing has been changed at the house it can't possibly the printer. I asked for a supervisor and of course "Joe" the person I was passed to hung up on me! Spent another hour on the phone today with some tech that kept telling me to check my computer and router settings even though the printer showed that it's wireless was disabled and would not come on. Well, OK I'll go along. Come to find out after several missteps and wrong instructions the tech today isn't really familiar with Windows XP, he is only confident with Windows Vista! Wow! Not XP, not Windows 7, just vista!? After my hour with him I finally again asked for a supervisor that could just help with warranty since it is so simply a bad unit and he put me on hold for 10 minutes before again, you guessed it, hanging up on me!
I am just amazed and truly saddened by the new direction of Epson as a manufacturer and as a support company. The products simply do not work correctly anymore. I have these two new or newer models and one older model sitting here that are proof. Please, do yourself the favor and steer clear of Epson completely, hopefully they will one day be back to the quality company they once were.
